Job Description

WHAT’S THE JOB?

As aBaker,you will delight our clients by preparing and bakinggoods to the highest standards of Horizon North.

This position is safety sensitive and requires drug,alcohol and fit to work testing as a condition of employment.

The position involves a remote work lifestyle in a camp setting with the following amenities:

  • All meals and accommodations are provided
  • Travel is provided to and from Edmonton Airport
  • Private room with cable television
  • Access to Wi-Fi
  • Access to laundry facilities and detergents
  • Access to a gym and common areas

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising night shift employees; providing mentorship and training
  • Identify areas of improvement on the overall operation as necessary
  • Preparing and baking goods from scratch
  • Restocking pastry shelves and maintaining a sufficient and fresh supply of baked goods
  • Creating and following menus to ensure quality of baked goods and desserts
  • Ensuring consistent quality standard in over-all food preparation as per clients’ requirements including consideration to special dietary constraints
  • Complying with food hygiene regulations in accordance with Food Safety Act
  • Cleaning, washing, and sanitizing equipment and over-all work areas

Working Conditions:

  • Project-based role with primary work in Nunavut, flexibility for remote work when not on-site.
  • Ability to work long shifts and rotational schedules (e.g., 4weeks on /2weeks off or similar).
  • Endurance to function effectively in remote northern climates, including extreme cold, wind, or lack of daylight during specific periods.
  • Resilience under isolation conditions—long periods away from home with limited external contact.
  • Fly-in/fly-out arrangement; shared accommodations and meals provided while on-site.
  • Extended periods away from home with possible weather-related travel delays.
  • Must comply with all company and client health, safety, and operational standards.
Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • FoodSafe Level I is a minimum. SafeCheck advanced food safety certification or HACCP certification is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years’baking experience in a similar or hotel/institutional environment
  • Proven experience preparing baked goods for large number of guests
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Ability to pass the Drug and Alcohol and Fitness Test is required
  • Ability to stand for a long period of time and lift up to 35 pounds
  • Successful candidates MUST obtain a mark of 80% or higher on the mandatory WHMIS test (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).

Work schedule and remuneration:

Bakers work on a rotational schedule of 4 weeks on/2 weeks off. Site location is in a remote camp setting in Nunavut. You may be required to work nights, weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. Wages are paid on an hourly basis with a starting rate of $21.00/hour.
