Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Baker to join our team in Halifax, NS. This role is essential in delivering authentic, high-quality British-style baked goods in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have proven commercial bakery experience, with strong skills in preparing traditional British favourites such as sausage rolls, savoury pies, Cornish pasties, scones, and breads, alongside other baked goods. The successful applicant will also demonstrate the ability to supervise staff, maintain high standards, and ensure efficient daily production.

Duties

  • Prepare dough for pies, breads, rolls, and pastries, including British-style sausage rolls, savoury pies, scones, and other traditional products.
  • Follow established recipes and maintain consistency in quality, taste, and presentation.
  • Train and supervise bakery staff in preparation, cooking, and handling of food.
  • Requisition or order materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensure the quality of products meets established standards and food safety regulations.
  • Organize and maintain inventory, monitor production schedules, and oversee daily operations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bakery in line with health and safety standards.
  • Operate bakery machinery and equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2–3 years of professional baking experience in a commercial bakery setting.
  • Proven ability to prepare British-style baked goods (e.g. sausage rolls, savoury pies, Cornish pasties, scones).
  • Strong supervisory skills and experience managing a small team.
  • Attention to detail, dependability, and ability to thrive under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada (citizen, permanent resident, or valid work permit). Sponsorship is not available.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to Halifax, NS, or be willing to relocate at own expense before starting work.

Compensation & Details

  • $30/hour, 40–44 hours per week.
  • Permanent, full-time employment.
  • On-site only (Halifax, NS).
