Job summary

AgeCare Ltd. in Calgary is seeking a Health Care Aide to join our care team. Under the supervision of a Staff Nurse, you will provide basic care and services to residents with a focus on safety, dignity, and personal comfort.

The role requires a PCA/HCA certificate or equivalent, CLHA registration, and English fluency. Part-time with flexible shifts supports a compassionate, inclusive workplace and opportunities for professional growth.

  • One year of experience in continuing care or related environment preferred.
  • Fluent in English, both oral and written.
  • PCA/HCA certificate or equivalent education; active CLHA registration.

Responsibilities

  • Bath, shower, and wash residents per care plan, ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Assist transfers using ceiling/mechanical lifts and appropriate PPE.
  • Provide feeding assistance during meals and nourishment times.
  • Refer to care plan for dietary requirements of residents.
  • Administer routine treatments and care procedures under supervision.
  • Support residents’ mobility and accompany them to dining and activities.

The Opportunity

A Health Care Aide (HCA) works as a member of the care team, collaborating on the delivery of resident care, to meet individual needs within the level of knowledge, skill sets & competency. The HCA, under the supervision of a Staff Nurse, applies this knowledge and these skills to provide a wide variety of safe and thorough basic care and services to residents.

What You Will Do
  • Bath, shower, and wash residents according to the NCP to promote resident personal comfort and well-being according to strict water temperature control procedures.
  • Transfer/assist with resident transfers in and out of bed, to and from wheelchair, commode, or toilet, using appropriate Engineering Controls (Ceiling Lifts, Mechanical Lifts) and Personal Protective Equipment Controls (Transfer Belt).
  • Feed/assist with feeding residents during meals and nourishment/snack times.
  • Refer to care plan for appropriate diet to each resident.
  • Provide routine treatments (e.g. skin creams, bowel protocols) and care procedures to residents, under the direction of the Staff Nurse.
  • Assist residents to travel about the facility.
  • Assist residents to and from the Dining Room for meals.
  • Moving can be assisting the resident to walk without or with mechanical aids: walkers, wheelchairs and other types of positioning chairs (i.e. Broda Chairs).
  • Assist residents to and from the Beauty Parlor, physiotherapy, and recreation activities.
  • Accompany residents to social and therapy functions inside our facility.
What You Bring
  • One year of experience in continuing care or related environment is preferred.
  • Post-secondary education an asset.
  • Must be fluent in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Completion of a recognized Personal Care Aide (PCA/HCA 2002 or greater) Certificate Course or Equivalent Education Certificate.
  • Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA).
