Job summary

ONWARD MILE CARRIERS in Thorold, ON is hiring a driver for permanent full-time employment. The role requires valid AZ/Class 1 licenses, air brake endorsement, and the ability to travel cross-border.

Drivers will operate across dry bulk refrigerated fleets, use GPS navigation, and perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance. The position entails coordinating routes, handling cargo records, and maintaining safety and compliance standards while working as part of a two-person team when

Qualifications

• Valid AZ class license and Class 1 driving credentials.
• Endorsements including Air Brake (Z) required.
• Willingness to travel cross-border and operate across routes.

Responsibilities

• Calculate fixed assets and depreciation
• Calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts if needed
• Plan or adjust routes using GPS to minimize fuel consumption and emissions
• Address customers' complaints or concerns
• Coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques
• Professionalism in customer service
• Arrange travel, itineraries, and reservations
• Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy
• Obtain special permits and documents to transport cargo on international routes
• Oversee vehicle condition and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and equipment
• Perform brake adjustments
• Perform emergency roadside repairs
• Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspections and oversee all vehicle operations
• Perform preventive maintenance
• Receive and relay information to central dispatch
• Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
