Job Overview

Spare School Bus Drivers are required on an “as needed” basis to support operations in the Annapolis Valley Centre for Education, throughout West Hants, Kings and Annapolis Counties. School buses travel on paved and unpaved roads in a variety of weather. Spare Bus Drivers are on call for a part‑year (during September - June) and part‑time (5 hours per day) and typically drive a morning and/or afternoon run for instructional days. Spare Bus Drivers may also opt to drive hours for extra‑ or co‑curricular events.

Responsibilities

Spare Bus Drivers safely drive school buses with air brakes on assigned routes and extra‑curricular trips, are responsible for the safety and discipline of passengers, daily routine maintenance including cleaning and washing, pre‑trip inspection of the vehicle, and compliance with all AVRCE and government policies, regulations, and legislation.

Qualifications

Must be a minimum of 19 years of age, have a current Nova Scotia Operator’s License Class 2B with air brake endorsement, a clean driving record, and up‑to‑date medical and vision tests. They should possess good communication skills, demonstrate reliability and interact courteously and professionally with students, parents/guardians, and staff. Training
