CanNorth is seeking highly motivated avian biologists to work with our talented team in Saskatoon, SK.

Responsibilities in this position will include:

  • Conducting field surveys in a diversity of environments with particular focus in northern Saskatchewan with an emphasis on breeding birds (point count surveys), targeted wildlife surveys, and avian risk assessments/nest searches;
  • Environmental monitoring for a variety of projects including power, pipelines, and construction projects (highways and mine sites);
  • Data collection and management;
  • Liaising with clients and contractors in a professional manner;
  • Technical writing (to include composing smaller screening memos to larger reports) and research skills;
  • Working with First Nations and regulatory agencies.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in science specializing in wildlife biology. Previous experience in a consulting environment is an asset. Ideal candidates should have a good knowledge of terrestrial ecology and breeding birds in prairie and boreal ecozones in western Canada, techniques used to sample terrestrial wildlife and habitat, and provincial and federal regulations, processes, and guidelines. The successful applicant must be a team player, highly motivated and organized, able to work with a range of personalities, and have a positive attitude. This position entails a substantial amount of field work from walking, to boating, and flying in helicopters. Field work will regularly require working in rugged terrain; and experience operating trucks with loaded trailers, ATV’s, boats, trail cameras, and autonomous recording units (ARUs) is an asset.
