Job summary

City of Thunder Bay is seeking an Automotive Technician to join the team and contribute to repair and preventative maintenance programs for buses and equipment. The role involves testing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles, with emphasis on safety and reliability.

Two vacancies exist, with a salary of $33.51 per hour and a full-time schedule. The position includes health, dental, pension benefits, and paid vacation.

Qualifications

  • Must hold Certificate of Qualification as Truck & Coach Technician (Code 310T).
  • Three years’ current experience as a certified mechanic in diesel and gasoline engines including heavy-duty equipment, hydraulics, air brake systems, and vehicle electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in repair prioritisation and preventative maintenance programs for servicing.
  • Develop tenders for equipment and inspect deliveries.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on prescribed vehicles and equipment.
  • Test and issue six-month bus vehicle safety inspection certificates.

Job requirement

  • They must have three years’ current experience as a certified mechanic in diesel and gasoline engines including heavy duty equipment, hydraulics, air brake systems, and vehicle electronics.
Work setting
  • Candidates must have the ability to provide technical direction regarding proper operation, minor maintenance servicing and minor repairs to operating personnel as required.
  • They should possess the capability to record and provide accurate data on repair orders regarding all servicing repairs and conditions found.
  • They must have the capacity to test all vehicles and equipment after performing P.M. maintenance or repair to ensure safety.
