Job summary

Clutch is seeking an Automotive Apprentice Technician to join our reconditioning facility in Halifax. You’ll ensure vehicles meet high mechanical and safety standards, perform inspections, and assist with repairs to prepare cars for delivery.

This full-time on-site role offers hands-on training, exposure to multiple brands, and opportunities for growth within Reconditioning and Operations. Competitive hourly wages and day-one benefits are provided.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years automotive tech experience with diagnostics and repair.
  • Experience with multiple vehicle brands (domestic, import, European).
  • Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
  • Able to multitask in a busy shop.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork.
  • Valid driver's license with clean abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standardized vehicle inspections and road tests.
  • Diagnose mechanical and safety issues and recommend repairs.
  • Complete routine maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Document all work accurately in Clutch systems.
  • Adhere to mechanical and safety standards.
  • Communicate status and workflow changes with team.
  • Support reconditioning staff and managers as needed.

About the role:

We are on a mission to build a world-class team that drives innovation, growth, and excellence. As we scale rapidly, we are looking for anAutomotive Apprentice Technicianto join our reconditioning facility team. This role ensures that all vehicles meet Clutch’s high mechanical and safety standards and that repairs and maintenance are performed efficiently. You will help keep our reconditioning process on track, ensuring vehicles are ready for customer delivery and sale.

What you’ll do:
  • Perform Clutch standardized vehicle inspections, including stationary checks and road tests
  • Diagnose and assess mechanical and safety issues, identifying necessary repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Provide recommendations on repairs and best course of action based on inspection results
  • Complete routine maintenance and minor repairs, such as brake jobs, suspension work, tire services, battery replacement, fluid changes, etc.
  • Document all repairs, maintenance work, and inspection findings accurately in Clutch systems
  • Adhere to Clutch’s mechanical and safety standards, contributing to ongoing process improvements
  • Communicate effectively with reconditioning staff, service leads, and management regarding vehicle status and workflow changes
What we’re looking for:
  • 3+ years of automotive technician experience, including mechanical diagnostics and repair
  • Experience working with a variety of vehicle brands (domestic, import, and European)
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize work, and adapt to changing demands in a busy environment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Comfortable using technology (Google Drive, Slack, inspection documentation tools)
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Able to commit to a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week, including overtime based on business needs.

  • Working Conditions: On-site, shop environment with moderate physical effort
It’d be great if you have:
  • Formal automotive technician training or relevant certifications
  • Experience with advanced diagnostic tools or scan tools
  • Previous apprenticeship experience in a reconditioning or dealership environment
