Job description

The Inclusion Coach will provide high-level support to the Autism Moves program by ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants. This role requires expertise in behavior management and supporting diverse needs, enabling children and youth with autism to thrive in weekly sport sessions. Duties may include 1:1 support with individual participants, large group integration and program adaptation development to meet needs of participants.

Autism Moves is a youth empowerment program that promotes physical activity, fundamental movement skills, and peer connection for youth ages 6 to 17 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through sport. With the support of trained program leaders and volunteers, youth will increase physical activity level and movement skills, increase mental health and well-being, and increase sense of belonging in sport.

What you’ll do:

  • Serve as the program’s onsite behaviour specialist, providing strategies and interventions to address challenging behaviors at each session.
  • Develop weekly lessons and curriculums, with option for varying ability levels and behaviour needs.
  • Support and mentor Program Leader and Program Support staff to ensure consistent application of behavior strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Program Leader to adapt sport activities to meet the developmental and sensory needs of participants.
  • Monitor participant progress and provide recommendations to enhance their experience.
  • Serve as the main point of contact onsite for families, providing updates and addressing concerns.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of participants at all times.

What’s needed:

  • Certification or experience in behaviour analysis, special education, sport and recreation, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorder and strategies for behaviour management.
  • Experience working with children and youth in sports, recreation, or therapeutic settings.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong ability to problem solve and think on your feet.
  • Professional appearance and positive attitude.
  • Availability to work weekends and weeknights.
  • Access to a vehicle to attend various program sites.
  • Bilingualism (English & French) is considered an asset.
  • Able to provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
