Qualifications

• Post-secondary certificate in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in a related role; equivalent education/experience may be considered.
• Knowledge of enterprise systems and local government operations.
• Strong MS Office skills and audiovisual support for online meetings.
• Experience in public and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

Job description

Located in the south-central region of B.C., the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) covers an area over 10,400 square kilometers and is renowned for its orchards, vineyards and golf courses, as well as its widely varied landscape including deserts, mountains and valleys, pristine lakes and outdoor recreational opportunities.

The RDOS is seeking a skilled and service-oriented Audiovisual Technical Specialist to join the Information Services team. Reporting to the Manager of Information Services Operations, the Audiovisual Technical Specialist provides technical leadership and operational support with a focus on corporate events. This role supports the Board of Directors and senior leadership by providing expertise on corporate systems, and policy-aligned technologies. It contributes to the development and implementation of technical solutions, incident response planning, and business continuity strategies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attends and technically supports all Board of Directors meetings to allow for virtual attendance.


• Assists with technical assessments and system evaluations to identify risks, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities for online meetings and events.


• Provides technical expertise in audio-visual systems, including the setup, configuration, and support of presentation technologies for corporate meetings, public hearings, training sessions, and special events.


• Designs and delivers technical training programs for staff and system users, tailored to support corporate initiatives and promote operational excellence.


• liaises with department staff to gather requirements, identify technical solutions, and provide education and awareness on systems used for events.


• Provides a professional experience for all users and ensures technology is in working order for each unique event.


• Supports technical training program delivery for system users in alignment with corporate initiatives as required.


• Utilizes technical expertise to support safe, accessible, and inclusive participation for diverse users and audiences.


• Provides technical support to corporate processes, projects, programs, and events as applicable.


• Supports a customer focused approach for the department’s operations that is consistent with the corporate customer excellence strategy.


• Supports the Regional District's occupational health and safety program by adhering to safe work procedures, identifying and reporting hazards and participating in safety initiatives.


• Recommends purchases for technical equipment.


• Participates as a member of the Emergency Response Team as required.


• Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Post-secondary certificate in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.


• Certifications in audiovisual systems, collaboration technologies, networking, or enterprise support including AVIXA CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D, Microsoft Teams Administrator, or CompTIA are considered assets.


• Minimum of three (3) years experience in a related role. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.


• Extensive knowledge of industry best practices in enterprise systems, technology commonly used in local government/professional operations.


• Comprehensive skills in Microsoft Office Suite and other software used in Regional District operations, as well as sound technical abilities to offer specialized support for audiovisual systems for online meeting platforms.


• Experience in supporting public and stakeholder engagement processes.


• Strong verbal communication and conflict resolution skills to meet the varying needs of internal and external customers and to mitigate and resolve conflicts when they arise.


• Strong ability to effectively liaise with government representatives, the general public, community and not-for-profit organizations and Regional District staff to establish and maintain positive relationships.


• Ability to exercise tact, discretion, integrity and sound judgement while dealing with sensitive issues in a political environment.


• Ability to maintain a calm demeanour while troubleshooting technical issues with deadline pressures.


• Ability to work independently and efficiently with limited supervision.


• Good physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to lift and load equipment.


• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.


• Ability to pass and maintain a criminal record check.


• Valid B.C. Driver’s Licence and clear driver’s abstract.

This part-time, BCGEU bargaining unit position offers an exciting opportunity to support high-profile corporate meetings and events while helping shape the organization’s technology landscape. The hourly wage for the position is paygrade 4, $36.70 per hour plus 15% in lieu of all benefits.

This position requires varied work hours that include weekday (daytime and evening) and some weekends. In addition, the RDOS may need to activate an Emergency Operations Centre to handle events such as floods and fires. You may be scheduled to work in the EOC during work hours as well as outside of work hours.
