About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Telecommunications, the Audio-Visual Technician is responsible for supporting and maintaining all audio-visual/ videoconferencing equipment in hundreds of classrooms and meeting spaces across campus. Additionally, the incumbent supports Senior Administration, Faculty, Staff, Students, guests and all other Brock Community members using audio visual equipment in classrooms and meeting spaces on campus.

The Audio Conferencing/Audio Visual Technologist will:

  • Support and maintain all Audio Visual (AV) & teaching technology in classrooms, learning spaces and meeting rooms campus wide;
  • Provide technical expertise in the implementation of AV & teaching technology in physical spaces that present connection challenges (e.g. gymnasiums, open air courtyards and off campus locations);
  • Provide technical support in person and/or over the phone for customers having difficulty with classroom equipment, including troubleshooting issues with podium AV devices, room control systems, microphones, projectors, audio recording equipment, and other related equipment;
  • Process and file AV equipment bookings over the phone, in person or by email for classroom/meeting space;
  • Provide training to students and teachers on how to use classroom technology;
  • Service and repair damaged equipment (e.g. replace bulbs in LCD and overhead projectors, clean air filters on LCD projectors, etc.);
  • Operate web-based control software to fix problems with classroom projectors and computers;
  • Process online work orders regarding faulty equipment and phone/network issues in classrooms;
  • Resolve AV incoming service and incident requests in a timely manner, maintain accurate and detailed records, and ensure all involved parties are appropriately updated;
  • Setup AV and videoconferencing equipment in advance of live events, including testing equipment ensuring the appropriate configuration and operation;
  • Setup and support videoconferencing applications and hardware and support live/pre-recorded productions for special events and webcasts;
  • Provide support to Help Desk resolving IT tickets, asset disposal and computer redeployment.

Please note: This position may require occasional work outside of regular business hours.

Key Skills and Experience
  • A relevant college diploma (e.g., computer engineering, electronic technician)
  • Current Ontario driver’s license with an acceptable drivers abstract
  • Experience providing audio-visual technical support
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems and hardware solutions for both desktops and mobile devices
  • Strong knowledge in classroom technologies and control systems, video conferencing technologies and audio-visual technologies, mobile device configuration and troubleshooting
  • Basic electronic knowledge
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to help deescalate upset, stressed individuals
  • Strong intuitive and interpretive skills, with demonstrated ability to assess client needs without much detail
  • Ability to teach, inform clients in language that is easy to interpret
  • Ability to solve technical AV issues under pressure with tight timelines
  • Effectively manage multiple and competing deadlines/projects
  • Strong troubleshooting capabilities and the ability to provide appropriate solutions
  • Ability to analyze technology alternatives and synthesize knowledge and information from various sources

Salary and Total Rewards:

  • Job Grade I, Salary Scale ($52,093-$84,476)
  • Target Hiring Range: $52,093 - $55,000*
  • This is a permanent position that includes:
  • Health & Dental Benefits: Comprehensive extended health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Pension Plan: Enrollment eligibility in the Brock University Pension Plan.
  • Vacation: Up to 3 weeks per year, in addition to university holidays.

* The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
