Job summary

Acumen Health is a multidisciplinary sports medicine practice in Canada, offering orthopedic rehabilitation, athletic therapy, and performance services. The team collaborates across therapists, kinesiologists, and coaches to deliver comprehensive care from evaluation through recovery.

The role involves evaluating patients, planning rehabilitation, and coordinating with the Reconditioning and Performance teams, while maintaining documentation and patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Certified Athletic Therapist with status with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA).
  • Successful completion of an Athletic Therapy program or equivalent bachelor’s degree.
  • Strength and conditioning certification (NSCA, NASM) not required; however, considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Report operationally to the Acumen Reconditioning Manager and functionally to the Acumen COO, CEO and Owner/Founder.
  • Prevention, assessment, and management of musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Champion mutually dependent relationships within the Acumen Health team.
  • Convey all pertinent information to the Acumen Reconditioning Manager and participate in meetings and reporting.
  • Ensure care, rehabilitation, and health care administration meet high standards for patients and environment.
  • Collaborate with the Acumen Performance team to support strength and conditioning and performance.
  • Transcribe medical notes during orthopedic consultations and follow-up appointments as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and proper documentation per medico-legal and CATA requirements.
  • Occasional travel to Acumen Health locations outside Calgary as needed.

Job description

Acumen Health is a team of Private Orthopedic Surgeons, Certified Athletic Therapists, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, and Kinesiologists. We have created a one-of-a-kind, all-encompassing sports medicine practice that can facilitate an individual's entire care from baseline/fitness/pre-performance testing, mobility assessments, strength assessments, independent medical evaluations, injury diagnosis, surgery, post-operative care and recovery.

At Acumen, the patient’s rehabilitative care plan is dictated by the Athletic Therapists who communicate with the Kinesiologists and Strength and Conditioning Coaches and can be overseen entirely by the Orthopedic Surgeon.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Reporting operationally to the Acumen Reconditioning Manager, and functionally to the Acumen COO, CEO and Owner/Founder.
  • Prevention, assessment, and management of musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Champion mutually dependent relationships within the Acumen Health team.
  • Promptly convey all pertinent information to the Acumen Reconditioning Manager while actively participating in periodic meetings and reporting.
  • Ensuring that all care, rehabilitation, and health care administration is delivered at the highest possible standard, while relevant to the functional demand of our patients and environment.
  • Stimulating and fostering close functional relationships with the Acumen Performance and Reconditioning team and other Acumen Health team members in establishing and implementing programs directed at the prevention of injury, performance enhancement, and post-operative rehabilitation.
  • Achieve optimal patient-centric outcomes, relevant to a patient’s specific needs.
  • Make recommendations for referral, both within Acumen Health, and externally when deemed appropriate.
  • Defensible documentation: Ensuring that all medical information, interactions, and interventions are documented and communicated as per medico-legal and Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) specific requirements.
  • Active participant and contributor to departmental in-services geared at knowledge exchange and information retention as pertaining to the Acumen Reconditioning and Performance teams.
  • Collaboration with the Acumen Performance team to create moments of exchange for feedback and problem-solving regarding strength and conditioning and performance support.
  • Transcribe medical notes while attending and actively participating in orthopedic consultations and follow-up appointments as directed by one of our orthopedic surgeons.
  • Computer proficiency with the Google Cloud Platform.
  • Utilization of, including but not limited to electronic medical records, while making sure patient-therapist confidentiality is adhered to.
  • Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Police background check to be completed upon hiring.
  • Occasional out of town travel required to Acumen Health locations outside of Calgary (Edmonton, Kelowna, Langley, Montréal, and Vancouver).

Qualifications:

  • Certified Athletic Therapist that have maintained status with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association.

Key Attributes and Skill Sets:

  • Patient orthopedic evaluation, follow-up treatment, and care of acute, sub-acute, post operative and chronic conditions. Interventions include but are not limited to manual therapy, joint mobilizations, therapeutic exercise, IASTM, MFD, craniosacral therapy, ART, SCS, MFR, massage and trigger point release.
  • Blood Flow Restriction as an adjunct therapeutic intervention to the Acumen Reconditioning and Performance teams.
  • The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within the framework of your position and title.
