Job summary

Allstate Canada is seeking an Associate Trial Lawyer to join the Claims Litigation Team. You will manage files from inception to resolution, drafting pleadings and preparing discovery, while collaborating with senior lawyers on complex matters.

The role offers hybrid work (2x/month) and opportunities to develop litigation expertise within a supportive environment, with compensation aligned to market norms for Ontario-based positions.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Law Degree and be a member of the Law Society of Ontario in good standing.
  • 2+ years experience working in a similar role with an Insurance Defence firm.
  • Personal Injury & Accident Benefit experience is an asset.
  • Experience with issue management.
  • Ability to influence others.
  • Analytical skills and sound legal decision-making.
  • Excellent drafting, reporting, and research skills; able to work independently or in a team.
  • Discretion and confidentiality; MS Office skills; interaction across organization.

Responsibilities

  • Review new file assignments and draft initial pleadings and prepare discovery.
  • Attend case conferences, questionings, mediations, pre-trials and trials.
  • Perform due diligence; gather all relevant facts and documents; collaborate with clients, paralegals and/or other lawyers in assessment of file.
  • Research and determine applicable and pertinent laws, statutes, regulations, rules, and other legal authority; identify legal issues.
  • Monitor and review new laws, regulations, and case law; identify and summarize relevant issues; proactively provide advice and counsel to business unit on the impact of new laws on business.
  • Provide advice and/or legal approval related to company documents, policy, practices, and procedures.
  • Draft, review and/or negotiate basic matters.
  • Draft and/or review routine correspondence and communications.
  • Respond to claims inquiries.
  • Gather facts from client to understand goals and objectives client intends to achieve from action.
  • Work with business colleagues to develop and implement change.
  • Determine if/how business processes/practices need to be modified and work with client to implement change.

As an Junior Associate Trial Lawyer, you will manage your own files from inception through to resolution and completion. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with Senior Lawyers on more complex files, gaining valuable experience and insight that will enhance your professional development and legal expertise.

Accountabilities:

Compensation

Compensation Expected compensation for this role ranges from $ 97,700.00 - 127,700.00 annually. Actual salary offered to successful candidates will vary based on their skills and experience.
