Overview

Responsibilities
  • Contribute and pitch daily ideas for program content; participate in the preparation of program objectives.
  • Prepare scripts; ensure adherence to the style and format of the program.
  • Organize the participation of interviewees, creative contributors and other participants, develop background, introduction, and line of questioning, conduct or arrange for any necessary research, and ensure the briefing of hosts.
  • Maintain contact files.
  • Operate the board for a live, early morning radio program team in studio.
  • Obtain studios, crews, lines, uplinks, remotes and other technical and production resources required by the program.
  • Assist in developing program and digital/video content including writing, researching, field production, and/or editing.
  • Create content for digital social platforms as required.
  • Participate in the evaluation of all aspects of the production.
  • Adhere to and follow the journalistic standards and practices to achieve the high quality standards CBC is known for.
Additional Production Tasks
  • Select music, sound effects.
  • Produce program elements.
  • Edit and mix, or direct the editing and mixing of audio and/or visual elements.
  • Write continuity, edit text, edit audio and occasionally edit video for broadcast.
  • Write stories for digital platforms.
  • Log programs and music in appropriate information systems.
  • Assist in maintaining a level of communication or rapport with members of the audience which is both feasible and appropriate to the style and nature of the program.
  • Perform other production or administrative tasks associated with the smooth functioning of the newsroom, program unit or station.

  • Familiarity and proven connections with Black, Indigenous and People of Colour communities, people living with a disability, and other underrepresented communities in British Columbia and across Canada.
  • Passion for Kamloops and B.C.’s interior – both stories and issues.
  • Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong story ideas.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team; may occasionally lead your work group.
  • Strong writing and editorial abilities.
