Associate Producer, The Early Edition, assigned technician

CBC British Columbia is looking for an Associate Producer assigned to the early morning technician role on Vancouver’s number one radio and streaming program, The Early Edition. You will be part of the radio/audio current affairs and video streaming production team working with producers and reporters to deliver highly crafted editorial material for local programs and all CBC B.C.’s content platforms. The successful candidate will have strong audio and video production skills, writing and desktop editing ability, news judgement and be able to work flexible shifts, including early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Key Tasks
  • Contributes and pitches ideas for program content; participates in the preparation of program objectives.
  • Operate the board for a live, early morning radio program team in studio.
  • Obtains studios, crews, lines, uplinks, remotes and other technical and production resources required by the program.
  • Assists in developing program and digital/video content including writing, researching, field production, and/or editing.
  • Prepares scripts; ensures adherence to the style and format of the program.
  • Assists in production and editing of biweekly podcast.
  • Organises the participation of interviewees, creative contributors and other participants, develops background, introduction, and line of questioning, conducts or arranges for any necessary research, and ensures the briefing of hosts.
  • Maintains contact files.
  • Creates content for digital social platforms as required.
  • Participates in the evaluation of all aspects of the production.
  • Adheres to and follows the journalistic standards and practices to achieve the high quality standards CBC is known for.
As required, performs the following tasks
  • Select music, sound effects.
  • Produce program elements.
  • Edit and mix, or direct the editing and mixing of audio and/or visual elements.
  • Write continuity, edit text, edit audio and video for broadcast.
  • Write stories for digital platforms.
  • Log programs and music in appropriate information systems.
  • Assist in maintaining a level of communication or rapport with members of the audience which is both feasible and appropriate to the style and nature of the program.
  • Perform other production or administrative tasks associated with the smooth functioning of the newsroom, program unit or station.

  • Community connections and a deep understanding and appreciation of the diversity of perspective and opinion in Metro Vancouver.
  • Familiarity and proven connections with Black, Indigenous and People of Colour communities, people living with a disability, and other underrepresented communities in British Columbia and across Canada.
  • Passion for the Metro Vancouver area and B.C. – both stories and issues.
  • Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong story ideas.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team, you may occasionally be leading your work group.
  • Strong writing and editorial abilities.
  • Ability to work in a multi‑platform environment.
