The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM), is recruiting for an Associate Physician to provide general medical care, under the supervision of a licensed physician, to patients admitted under this service. This position will offer the Associate Physician an opportunity to work to their full scope of practice. The Section of PHM provides comprehensive, tertiary inpatient acute and complex care to children in Southern Alberta, SE British Columbia and SW Saskatchewan; a catchment area of approximately 2.5 million people. PHM is a busy service that provides 24/7 inpatient coverage for approximately 80% of hospitalized medical patients. PHM provides consultation to subspecialty, surgical, and psychiatry inpatient services, and provide support to our regional partners across Southern Alberta. Staff Hospital Pediatricians at Alberta Children's Hospital are currently responsible to participate in any emergency resuscitation codes outside of the ER and ICU-units. PHM is a dynamic and diverse group of physicians who are very collaborative and enjoy mentoring, teaching learners, and working within a multidisciplinary team.

Description:

The primary responsibility of the Associate Physician (AP) is to provide comprehensive direct patient care, within their skill matrix, as a central member of the PHM team. You will be working alongside physicians, medical trainees, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists and dieticians. The AP is responsible to perform comprehensive assessments, make differential diagnoses, order appropriate testing, and plan the clinical management of patients. The AP is expected to participate in inter-disciplinary collaboration in the provision of patient care. Only those demonstrating the strongest qualifications will be contacted for an interview.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada, including Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or individuals holding valid open work permits. As required by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency, typically through the Academic IELTS examination with minimum scores of 7.0 in each component unless exempt under CPSA policy. Candidates must hold a medical degree from a medical school outside Canada or the United States that is listed in the FAIMER International Medical Directory, and must have completed at least one full year of hands on, supervised postgraduate medical education outside Canada and the United States. Applicants must have successfully completed the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination Part I (MCCQE1) and must be eligible for registration under CPSA’s Limited Practice Registry for supervised practice.

Additional Required Qualifications

Candidates must submit a current Curriculum Vitae and an AHS Clinical Assistant/Associate Physician Eligibility Pre Screen Letter with their application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The successful applicant is responsible for maintaining licensure with the CPSA throughout employment. AHS requires all applicants to complete a pre screening process to confirm eligibility for CPSA registration; details are available on the AHS Medical Staff website. Applicants must demonstrate currency of practice within the last three years, either through independent practice, supervised regulated practice, or continuous postgraduate training for at least one year in the discipline. Fellowship training, community service, public service, national service, Medical Officer roles, and general practice experience do not meet currency of practice requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

It is anticipated this will be a highly competitive job posting. Preference will be given to applicants who have recent experience in an acute care facility; specifically, those who have had specific experience within the last 3 years in Pediatric Intensive care. Those with experience in Pediatrics and Family Medicine are also welcomed.
