Job summary

PSP Investments in Montreal seeks an Associate, Natural Resources Investments to help build and oversee the NR portfolio (CAD19.7B AUM). The role involves investment screening, financial analysis, due diligence and deal execution, with a focus on mining and related sectors.

You will model investments, prepare memorandums for approval, interact with management and partners, and help develop industry insights. Strong English/French communication and a CFA asset are valued.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three to five years of private investments experience.
• Experience in mining or natural resources is a strong asset.
• Excellent financial modeling and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform investment analysis and execute transactions.
• Lead financial modeling and sensitivity analyses; review projections and valuation assumptions.
• Prepare investment recommendation memorandums for investment approval.
• Participate in due diligence with management teams and third-party consultants.
• Represent the NR Team across Mining, Timber, Agriculture and Investment Industries.
• Develop deal-flow and become a subject matter expert in the NR sector.
• Monitor financial and operating results and interact with portfolio company management.

ABOUT THE TEAM

We’re seeking an Associate, Natural Resources Investments ("NR") for our investment team, who will be highly involved in building out and overseeing the NR portfolio (CAD$19.7 billion of assets under management as of March 31st, 2026) through direct investments and strategic partnerships in the natural resource sector, with a focus on mining. The Associate will be involved in investment screening, financial analysis and modeling, industry analysis, transaction due diligence and deal execution. He/she will participate in the investment decision process, preparation of investment recommendation memos, post-investment monitoring activities, working with portfolio companies, as well as researching industry trends.

ABOUT YOUR ROLE

• Perform investment analysis and execute transactions
• Perform preliminary analysis of investment opportunities, meet with prospective partners and industry experts and prepare summary reports
• Perform in-depth due diligence of potential investments, identify key investment merits and risks, meet with management teams, review documentation and work in conjunction with partners and third-party consultants
• Act as the lead in the development of detailed financial models, including performing extensive sensitivity analyses, review of financial projections and valuation assumptions
• Act as the lead in the preparation of investment recommendation memorandums for investment approval
• Participate in presentations to various committees as required
• Represent the NR Team across the Mining, Timber, Agriculture and Investment Industries
• Active networking with industry experts, consultants, peers and industry players
• Attend conferences, organize meetings and keep up to date on industry trends
• Participate in building deal-flow and becoming a subject matter expert
• Actively Manage Investments
• Monitor financial and operating results
• Interact with management and operating partners
• Work alongside management teams of portfolio companies on specific projects to create value

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

• University degree with strong academic standing
• Professional designation: CFA an asset
• Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in private investments, investment banking, consulting, corporate finance, equity research or in a natural resources company
• Experience and/or education in mining a strong asset
• Excellent financial and analytical skills
• Project management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Ability to demonstrate leadership and sound business judgement
• Mature, driven, motivated and ability to take initiative
• Responsible, diligent and able to work independently and as part of a team
• Good attention to detail and presentation of information
• Knowledge and interest in the mining, forestry and agriculture sectors
• Superior level of proficiency with business software and analytical tools
• Good communications skills in English and French (or willingness to learn)
• (regular interactions in English with investment partners based outside of Quebec Example: peers, bankers, brokerage firms, etc. and PSP employees in our offices in Hong Kong, London and New York, and interactions in French with employees in our local offices in Montreal and Ottawa)
