Job description
Associate Lawyer - Professional Regulation

We are inviting applications from lawyers in the 1-5 year range of practice, but we are open to hearing from those with more or less experience. If you are looking to make a move in the New Year, we may be prepared to wait for the right candidate, but please reach out now, as we will be looking at applications and inviting interviews on a rolling basis.

Who we are:

We are a boutique law firm specializing in professional regulation and workplace law. Our primary practice area is representing regulators in regulatory litigation before tribunals and courts. We also represent regulated professionals and licensed businesses in regulatory matters and assist with employment and human rights issues. This role offers opportunities to work on interesting legal issues while also advancing issues of public interest.

The Role:

We are looking for a lawyer who can assist as co-counsel on larger files and eventually run their own files independently. Experience in prosecutions, professional regulation, employment or administrative law is an asset.

We offer the following to our lawyers:
  • Reasonable hour expectations: On average, our lawyers bill between 1300-1400 hours per year.
  • Profit sharing: All employees benefit from the success of the firm.
  • Transparency with numbers: We don’t hide anything about billings, collections and earnings.
  • Meaningful Work: Our work relates to matters of public interest. We advance the public protection mandates of our regulator clients and resolve difficult situations for our individual clients to improve their professional and work lives.
  • A culture of support: We support our team in both their professional and private lives. Many of our lawyers and staff have personal obligations (children, parents, pets, hobbies) and we support each other throughout.
  • Direct client contact and mentoring: We want our lawyers to know our clients and to develop the skill to be trusted by them independently.
  • Competitive Salaries: We offer competitive salaries that include participation in the firm’s profit-sharing. We also offer a health spending account and paid continuing education opportunities.

We are based in downtown Toronto and are open to hybrid work arrangements. Please contact Jordan Glick, Lisa Feinberg, or Jordan Stone directly if you are interested in this role or if you know someone who might be. All inquiries will be held in confidence. We can be reached directly at jglick@gfsllp.ca , lfeinberg@gfsllp.ca , and jstone@gfsllp.ca .
