Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking a project-focused leader to drive the profitable execution of fire installation projects. You will coordinate engineers, designers and field teams to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery while maintaining strong client relationships.

You will collaborate with Sales and Operations to influence early project strategy, manage scope and risks, and drive change orders when needed. A valid BC driver’s license and travel readiness are essential.

Qualifications

• PM and field experience in construction, utility, transportation, or telecom preferred.
• Engineering degree or related diploma required or preferred.
• Ability to communicate technical material to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Willingness to travel based on project assignments and business needs.
• Experience with MS Project and MS Office; proficiency with Visio is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia.

What You Will Do

Under the general direction of the Installation/Operations Manager and/or Senior Project Manager, you are responsible for the profitable execution of assigned Fire Installation projects, with a focus on transportation, commercial, and public sector portfolios.

You will bridge the gap between engineering consultants, technical design, and field installation by utilizing hands‑on problem‑solving and strong communication skills.

You will work with Sales and Operations Leadership, as well as other teams as needed, to support sales activities early in the project development process. This includes providing input on strategy, vendor/partner selection, scope enhancements, value engineering, and risk assessment.

You will provide direction to project execution teams, which may include Engineers, Designers, Technicians, Project Coordinators, Estimators, and subcontractors, to ensure projects are completed accurately, on time, billed appropriately, within budget, and within the scope of the contract. You are responsible for maintaining positive cash flow and actively pursuing change orders.

You will also follow consistent, repeatable project management procedures and processes while maintaining an effective balance between customer satisfaction and project financial results.

How You Will Do It

• Ensure that Johnson Controls resources, as well as subcontractor/vendor resources, adhere to site and JCI safety policies, whichever is more stringent.


• Manage project scope, costs, resources, and risks to deliver projects on time and within budget.


• Act as the primary on‑site leader for execution teams on assigned projects. Develop the Project Execution Plan, including (but not limited to) the Work Breakdown Structure, Organizational Chart, Safety Plan, Project Schedules, Issue/Risk Logs, and Staffing Requirements.


• Evaluate the contractual scope of work and assess the impact of client‑issued instructions/notices, field directives, and/or schedule changes. Actively pursue change orders and additional opportunities. Perform cost estimates, prepare proposals, and negotiate final settlement pricing and customer acceptance.


• Manage project‑related accounts payable, billing, and collections. Complete project billing with the assistance of the Project Coordinator in a timely and accurate manner to maintain positive cash flow.


• Review and interpret contract terms and conditions to ensure work is completed to customer satisfaction and JCI standards.


• Analyze financial reports and project schedules to proactively address potential issues. Communicate project progress, issues, and financial status effectively to management as required.


• Manage risks and establish project recovery plans when necessary. Resolve disputes with minimal escalation.


• Prepare RFPs, negotiate, and issue subcontracts.


• Ensure project document controls comply with contract requirements and JCI standards.


• Oversee project construction for compliance with specifications, local codes, and installation techniques.


• Manage the selection, ordering, and delivery schedule of project materials.


• Develop and maintain strong, long‑term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors, and subcontractors. Attend job progress meetings as required and ensure subcontractors understand project expectations.


• Coordinate with the Installation/Operations Manager and/or Senior Project Manager to allocate resources needed to meet project objectives. Ensure engineering and commissioning performed by the field team aligns with established standards and escalates product‑related issues as needed.


• Assist the Installation/Operations Manager and/or Sales team in project development efforts.


• Provide feedback on the performance of Engineers and Designers to Engineering and Design Team Leaders, as well as Operations Management.


• Perform installation‑to‑service turnover at the end of each project.

What We Look For

• Project management and direct field experience in construction, utility, transportation, or telecom industries is preferred.


• Degree in Engineering or a diploma in Building Technology, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline.


• Understanding of architectural design, engineering practices, construction documentation, and applicable municipal regulations.


• Ability to communicate technical material effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences, verbally and in writing.


• Willingness to travel based on project assignments and business needs.


• Experience with MS Project, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Writer, Visio, and a basic Windows environment.


• Valid driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia with a satisfactory driving record.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $35-$48 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience,knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with marketdata.)
