Job summary

National Bank of Canada is seeking an Associate, Execution for the Ontario National Client Group. You will engage in senior debt lending mandates, including bilateral and syndicated transactions, and support credit analysis, modeling, and due diligence.

You will work with Directors and partners to manage an existing portfolio and contribute to new opportunities in a hybrid work model with opportunities to work from home up to 3 days a week.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field.
  • Professional designation(s) or advanced degree in Finance/Accounting/Business Admin is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a wide variety of complex senior debt lending mandates.
  • Perform high-quality credit analysis and deal structuring.
  • Model transactions in Excel and S&P Capital IQ and assess borrower risk.
  • Independently manage an assigned portfolio of Annual Reviews.
  • Coordinate with financial advisors, PE sponsors and internal partners for due diligence.
  • Collaborate with Associates and Client Account Representatives on credit submissions.

Job description

In this role you actively participate in a wide variety of complex senior debt lending mandates comprised of both bilateral and syndicated transactions headed by senior members of the National Client Group lending team.

  • Support the day-to-day management of the Ontario National Client Group credit portfolio and assist with the execution of new lending opportunities/mandates as needed.
  • Perform high-quality credit analysis and deal structuring activities in accordance with Bank standards while partnering with the Director(s), National Client Group (Execution and Relationship Management), in managing and growing an existing portfolio(s) of complex lending relationships.
  • Perform transaction financial modeling (Microsoft Excel, S&P Capital IQ) and Borrower Risk Ratings on a portfolio of existing and prospective clients.
  • Independently manage an assigned portfolio of Annual Reviews while working collaboratively with Directors on more complex renewals.
  • Assist Directors by working closely with financial advisors, private equity sponsors and internal banking partners (i.e. derivative hedging, loan syndications and investment banking) to perform required due diligence on prospective new transaction opportunities.
  • Work in close collaboration with other Associates and Client Account Representatives on credit submission requests and ensure that client and collateral files are updated in a timely manner.
Your team

As a part of the Ontario National Client Group team, you are part of a dynamic and highly motivated team, and you report to the Director & Team Lead, Execution, National Client Group. Our team stands out for its excellence in transaction delivery, execution and collaboration with an integrated go-to-market strategy. The portfolio consists of a balance of large Canadian private businesses coupled with private equity sponsor-backed deals across diversified industries (both bilateral and syndicated transactions). Working hours are largely dictated by portfolio demands with occasional non-standard working hours under a hybrid working model (possibility of working from home up to 3-days a week).

Our training programs take an experiential approach in which you will collaborate with senior members of the National Client Group deal team and gain hands‑on experience underwriting complex transactions and managing an active portfolio. As you develop your professional skillset and gain valuable transaction and portfolio management experience, several growth opportunities exist – both within the National Client Group team and within the broader Bank.

Requirements:
  • Hold a Bachelors’ degree in finance, accounting or related field to the sector of activity
  • Professional designation(s) and/or an advanced degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration is considered a strong asset
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Corporate or upper mid‑market Commercial Banking or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of credit underwriting, loan structuring (bilateral/syndicated transactions) and financial statement analysis.
