About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Associate VP, Vancouver Island, the Associate Director, Vancouver Island will help lead and grow the Foundation’s major gift program for the Vancouver Island region.

The Associate Director will manage a portfolio of high‑value donors and prospects, develop regional strategies, and collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure alignment between donor priorities and institutional goals.

Responsibilities will include :

Fundraising & Donor Engagement
  • Manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, with a focus on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding transformational contributions.
  • Support the development and execution of the annual major gifts plan for the Vancouver Island region.
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities for philanthropic investment in alignment with BC Cancer’s clinical and research priorities.
  • Use donor research and data insights to inform prospect strategies and engagement plans.
Campaign Strategy & Execution
  • Contribute to leading, planning and executing regional and province‑wide campaign efforts.
  • Collaborate with fundraising leads across the province to ensure coordinated, strategic, and aligned campaign activities.
  • Support province‑wide campaigns and fundraising initiatives as needed
Stakeholder & Community Engagement
  • Build strong relationships with BC Cancer staff, scientists, and site leaders to ensure fundraising efforts reflect institutional needs.
  • Represent the Foundation at community events, donor engagements, and regional initiatives to enhance visibility and deepen relationships.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
  • Collaborate closely with internal colleagues and external partners to support integrated fundraising strategies across the Foundation.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to regional fundraising staff, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing team culture.
Qualifications
  • 8-10 years’ experience in fundraising / donor relations, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Proven success in securing major and transformational gifts
  • Experience in contributing to or leading multi‑million‑dollar campaigns
  • Exceptional communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Strong strategic thinking with a track record of executing complex initiatives
  • Experience working with senior leaders, medical professionals, scientists, and community stakeholders
  • High level of professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Familiarity with fundraising tools and CRM platforms such as Raiser’s Edge is an asset
  • Valid BC driver’s license and access to reliable transportation

  • Experience working in health care, research, or academic institutions
  • Familiarity with Vancouver Island’s philanthropic and nonprofit landscape

Salary Range: $85,000 - $111,000
