Job description

The Risk Management Solutions Group (“RMSG”) at National Bank of Canada Capital Markets is seeking an Associate Director to help expand our Foreign Exchange risk management franchise in Ontario. This is a client facing origination and relationship management role focused on deepening relationships with existing commercial and mid market clients, while partnering with our Commercial Banking, National Accounts and Specialized Banking teams to identify and convert new opportunities as National Bank’s Ontario business continues to grow.

Based on the NBCM trading floor in Toronto, you will work alongside experienced derivatives originators and trading professionals to advise clients on their foreign exchange exposures, develop practical hedging strategies and progressively assume ownership of a defined client portfolio.

The role is suited to someone who combines strong client and business development instincts with sound judgement and technical capability. You should be comfortable building relationships with clients and internal banking partners, developing opportunities from the earliest stage and following them through to execution.

Your Job

Reporting to the Managing Director and Head of Risk Management Solutions, you will be responsible for originating, structuring, and executing Foreign Exchange risk management solutions for commercial and mid-market clients, while contributing to the continued growth of the Ontario franchise.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Partner closely with Commercial Banking, National Accounts and Specialized Banking relationship teams to identify Foreign Exchange exposures, develop new opportunities and deepen National Bank’s existing client relationships
  • Develop, grow and manage a portfolio of existing and prospective commercial, mid-market and entrepreneurial clients across multiple industries
  • Advise CFOs, finance leaders and business owners on operational, financing, acquisition and balance sheet FX exposures
  • Structure and propose customized OTC Foreign Exchange solutions tailored to clients’ exposures, cash flows, strategic priorities, and risk management objectives
  • Maintain an active pipeline of existing client and new business opportunities and contribute to the growth of the Ontario FX franchise
  • Prepare client presentations, market commentary, exposure analyses and other data driven materials
  • Conduct client, industry and market analysis to support opportunity identification and recommendations
  • Coordinate with trading, credit, legal, onboarding and documentation teams from opportunity identification through execution
  • Price and execute FX derivative transactions in collaboration with the trading desk

Success in this role will be measured by the ability to deepen existing client relationships, generate opportunities in partnership with National Bank of Canada’s relationship teams, convert opportunities into transactions and progressively expand ownership of client coverage and origination activity. As the portfolio grows, the successful candidate will assume greater autonomy and responsibility within the FX franchise.

Your team

The Risk Management Solutions Group is responsible for developing and originating financial derivative transactions and structured solutions for National Bank of Canada’s existing and prospective clients. RMSG works closely with our Commercial Banking, National Accounts and Specialized Banking teams. Our product scope is cross-asset and includes derivatives on interest rates, foreign exchange, equities, and commodities. Our mandate also includes developing new structures to address evolving client needs.

As National Bank of Canada’s commercial business continues to expand in Ontario, RMSG is investing in additional client coverage and origination capacity to support existing relationships and capture new opportunities.

Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, business, mathematics, engineering or another relevant field. A graduate degree, CFA designation or other relevant professional qualification is an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant client facing experience in FX sales, derivatives origination, treasury risk management, capital markets or commercial/corporate banking
  • Demonstrated experience developing client relationships, originating business and converting opportunities into transactions
  • Strong understanding of Foreign Exchange markets, corporate FX exposures and commonly used hedging products, with the ability to translate technical concepts into practical client recommendations
  • Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities, including the ability to assess client exposures, compare hedging alternatives and communicate the financial implications clearly
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint; working knowledge of Bloomberg Terminal is an asset
  • Natural curiosity, the ability to think critically and solve problems, and a collaborative mindset when working with clients, banking partners, traders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

The successful candidate will bring strong relationship building and business development skills, technically credibility and the confidence to take ownership of opportunities while collaborating effectively across the broader client coverage team.
