Job Overview

Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site, with Ottawa (1800 Alta Vista Drive) being a preferred work location, and will be working a mixture of on‑site and off‑site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in‑person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending on circumstances.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the leadership of donor health at CBS and ensure donation policies are relevant and aligned with evolving science and best practices.
  • Develop recommendations regarding policies affecting the safety and security of the blood supply, from the donor and recipient perspective, and assess the impact and effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Develop key performance indicators, evaluate research outcomes and improve processes.
  • Build and nurture relationships with external partners, including other blood operators and academic institutions, and facilitate collaboration and partnerships to enhance CBS’ capabilities and promote knowledge sharing.
  • Play a leadership role on internal and external committees and actively engage in national and international conferences.
  • Work closely with the CBS Donor Engagement & Corporate Reputation team by participating in media relations and stakeholder engagement activities.
Qualifications
  • MD degree, with specialty training in a relevant field; an academic appointment is considered an asset.
  • Five years of related experience, including leadership, strategy and policy development within a complex organization and representing an organization externally.
  • Strong analytical abilities, effective problem solving and decision‑making skills, and highly capable written and verbal communicator.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Integrity, collaboration, adaptability, respect, and excellence in every situation and a highly strategic and forward‑thinking approach.
