Job summary

Imagine Recruitment & Advisory is assisting a client in the energy sector with an Associate Director level role leading the Consolidations team in Ottawa. The role reports to the Vice President, Finance and drives quarterly financial consolidations, reporting excellence, and close processes with cross-functional partners.

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of progressive finance experience, a CPA designation, and strong IFRS/US GAAP knowledge.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation in good standing and professional accounting designation.
  • Minimum eight years progressive experience with at least five in a management role.
  • Strong IFRS and/or US GAAP knowledge and regulatory exposure.
  • Analytical with high attention to detail in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven leadership and ability to coach a team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver consolidated results to parent companies quarterly.
  • Review schedules and disclosures for financial reporting.
  • Coordinate with portfolio companies on close activities.
  • Maintain internal control documentation for close processes.
  • Lead integration of new assets into the consolidation framework.
  • Collaborate across teams to meet consolidation requirements.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for documentation needs.
  • Drive process improvements for the consolidation group.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members.
  • Support VP Finance on related initiatives.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses and special projects.

Job description

Our client within the energy industry is seeking a strong accounting leader at the Associate Director level to lead their Consolidations team.

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, the role will own quarterly financial consolidations, drive reporting excellence through acquisition integrations, partner with stakeholders across finance, the business, and external audit and provide leadership and strategic support while leading special projects and supporting senior finance leadership.

This role offers a competitive compensation package including base salary of $125K-$135K, bonus, retirement savings program, benefits program, and more. The total compensation package is in the range of $170K-$185K. Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver consolidated results to parent companies on a quarterly basis;
  • Review supporting schedules and analysis required for financial statement disclosures and management reporting;
  • Correspond regularly with portfolio companies and other corporate departments on financial close related activities;
  • Maintain corporate level internal control documentation to ensure the financial statement close process is compliant;
  • Lead integration of new assets/acquisitions into the consolidated accounting and reporting framework;
  • Collaborate with and respond to the business and finance inquiries from other teams to ensure consolidation system related requirements are met on a timely basis;
  • Coordinate with external auditors’ requests to ensure all documentation requirements are met;
  • Support and lead key initiatives and process improvements for the consolidation group; collaborate on cross-functional initiatives with other corporate teams;
  • Oversee the work and provide guidance, coaching and mentorship to the team members;
  • Provide support to the Vice President, Finance on various related activities;
  • Perform Ad-hoc analysis and special projects as required
Knowledge and Experience Required
  • Be a member in good standing of a Professional Corporation and hold a recognized Professional Accounting designation;
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive work experience, with a minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience in a management role;
  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS and/or USGAAP required and knowledge or exposure to regulatory compliance;
  • Solid analytical abilities, combined with strong attention to detail; working in a conscientious, consistent and thorough manner;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, complex, fast-paced environment, to adapt quickly and to manage changing priorities;
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to proactively establish and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group at all levels of the organization and across platforms;
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written). English is essential, French is considered an asset;
  • Proven team leadership skills; assuming a leadership role in helping others achieve excellence.
  • Experience in consolidation and complex accounting;
  • Experience with consolidation systems such as OneStream, Cognos Controller; Hyperion Financial Management considered an asset;
  • Strong financial systems experience, including advanced MS Excel.
