Job summary

IMCO, based in downtown Toronto, is seeking a junior Data Management professional to support investment data applications and ensure data accuracy. You will work with investment teams and external partners to maintain data processes and master data records.

You will gain exposure to investment systems and learn data management best practices while using SQL, VBA and Python to automate tasks and improve data flows within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary training in Business, Finance or Computer Science with related experience (1-3 years) in the investment industry.
• Experience with Eagle STAR/NEXEN, Eagle PACE, BarraOne, Bloomberg or similar financial applications is a requirement.
• Prior experiences with risk processes is preferred.
• Knowledge of investment management, accounting, performance, and Risk principles and practices, or an understanding of a broad range of security types and associated investment data, with exposure to marketable securities, derivatives, private markets (e.g. Real Estate, Infrastructure, Private Equity).
• Knowledge of relational databases and SQL is required; Knowledge of VBA or other programming languages is strongly preferred
• Strong communication skills, being able to communicate comfortably with both business and technical teams.
• Additional professional training in financial markets (CFA, FRM, etc.) would be an asset.
• Strong working knowledge of data quality measurement, operational controls and process improvement.
• Attention to detail and data accuracy with ability to identify patterns and inconsistencies.
• Proficient with MS Suite

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve ad-hoc data issues in multiple data subject areas such as accounting, risk, performance and market data across various data consumption points (applications, databases, reports and dashboards).
• Escalate data and content integrity issues (e.g. security master, portfolio holdings, benchmark, market data) on a timely basis, takes discretion to resolve issues within the bounds of assigned authorities, and communicates openly to data consumers.
• Operate production data processes to ensure data integrity and appropriate flow of data within a control framework, tying back to the master book-of-record.
• Monitor and oversee data quality (completeness, accuracy, consistency) to assure it is fit for consumption and meets the needs of data consumers.
• Comply with service level agreements which define service expectations with internal stakeholders (e.g. Investment Risk, Investment Finance, Investments, Information Technology department).
• Maintain metadata and documentation of production data flows.
• Build and maintain relationship with external vendors and work closely with vendors to manage change in data delivery processes.
• Other duties as assigned.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract.

As a junior member of the team, you will be responsible in supporting key investment data applications including the verification and maintenance of investment data. Working with both internal investment teams (Performance Management, Risk, Investment Operations and Investments) and external business partners in executing key operational tasks, this role is critical in developing and maintaining data processes to deliver accurate and timely data to support investment professionals across the enterprise. The role reports to the Manager, Data Management.

In this role, you will gain an exposure to investment systems and processes, gain in-depth knowledge of accounting, performance, risk, security analytics data sets and learn about data management best practices.

The base salary range for this position is CAD $65,000.00 - $85,000.00. The placement within the range is determined by the range of market pay for the specific position, as well as the candidate’s knowledge, skillset and experience relative to the requirements of the position and to internal peers.
