Working closely with the Director, Centralized Governance & Controls (CGC), the Associate is accountable for the implementation, maintenance and adherence of governance and control initiatives, programs, and processes. At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on‑site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How You’ll Succeed
  • Control Environment & Compliance Assessment: You and your team efficiently execute control programs by developing test plans, performing control testing, monitoring and managing deficiencies, and ensuring compliance with records management requirements. Together, you communicate results and support the timely remediation of identified issues.
  • Reporting & Data Analysis: You create visually compelling, concise, and insightful management reports on the status of your Line of Business (LOB) owned deficiencies. You also provide data analysis to support policy and programme reviews, helping drive informed decision‑making.
  • Risk & Regulatory Support: As a single point of contact, you help your LOBs meet Enterprise requirements, including Anti‑Bribery & Anti‑Corruption assessments, Risk and Control Self‑Assessments, Business Managed Technology, Third Party Governance, Operational Loss data enhancement, Key Risk Indicators, Privacy Incidents, and Anti‑Money Laundering Quality Assurance.
  • Collaboration & Advisory: You advise your LOBs on developing policies and procedures, project plans, business requirements, executive presentations, and training materials. You actively participate in ad‑hoc business initiatives, CIBC‑wide projects, and committees, contributing your expertise wherever needed.
  • Relationship Management: You foster strong relationships by regularly liaising with stakeholders across various CIBC LOBs and Capital Markets infrastructure partners—including Finance, Operations, Technology, Risk Management, Compliance, Privacy, and Audit. Your communication and collaboration help ensure the success of governance, control initiatives, and program delivery.

You have working experience managing governance requirements, including building controls and control testing. Your ability to effectively communicate with business partners is essential to success in the role.
  • You bring knowledge of operational, regulatory, and reputational risks associated with Global Markets Trading, Investment Banking, and Corporate Banking, and a comprehension of the policies, standards, processes and controls that need to be in place to mitigate these risks.
  • You love to learn. You’re passionate about growing your knowledge and applying it in order to bring efficiency to your work. Knowledge of audit and testing frameworks in the context of processes and controls is considered an asset.
  • You are technically savvy. You have a high degree of computer literacy and familiarity with business tools (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint) is a must. Experience with process automation components (i.e. Excel Macros) is an asset.
