Job summary

Babcock Canada Inc. is seeking an Associate Buyer for an 18-month fixed-term role in Canada. The position supports procurement from requisition through delivery, with a focus on supplier performance and contract compliance.

The role requires 1+ years in procurement or supply chain, a relevant bachelor’s degree, and strong stakeholder engagement. Defence/marine exposure is a plus, with ERP experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • At least 1+ years’ experience in procurement or the supply chain function.
  • Experience in Defence / Marine industry is highly desirable.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • designation through NSCM or a Procurement certificate is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Knowledge of supply chain principles and global networks.
  • Experience with ERP modules for procurement and supply chain management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the purchasing process from requisition to delivery with reliability.
  • Support project objectives through contract and supplier performance management.
  • Ensure procurement processes and POs comply with policies and procedures.
  • Drive supplier management initiatives and performance against contract requirements.
  • Lead procurement process improvement and change management initiatives.
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture within the team.
  • Oversee occupational health & safety for direct reports.
  • Assist Procurement Manager and Senior Buyer with day-to-day operations.

Associate Buyer (18-Month Fixed Term)

Victoria, BC or Ottawa, ON

Expected Salary: $55,346 to $69,183

Your Role

In this role, you will:

  • Manage the purchasing process from requisition to delivery, ensuring high response rates, accountability, and reliability of the procurement team.
  • Support the delivery of project objectives through the rigorous management of contract and supplier performance.
  • Ensure procurement processes and purchase orders are compliant with Babcock Canada’s Commercial, Quality Assurance, and Security policies and procedures.
  • Drive supplier management initiatives, develop supplier relationships and ensure supplier performance in terms of time, cost, and quality as per contract requirements.
  • Be committed to and proactively identify, lead, and collaborate on procurement process improvement initiatives.
  • Encourage a continuous improvement culture while ensuring the team are proactively supporting change management.
  • Be responsible for the occupational health & safety of all direct reports under your supervision.
  • Assist the Procurement Manager and Senior Buyer as and when required with the day-to-day operation and management of the procurement activities.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 1+ years’ experience in procurement or the supply chain function.
  • Experience within the Defence / Marine industry is highly desirable.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Designation through the National Institute of Supply Chain Management, or Certificate in Procurement and Supply Operations is considered an asset.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Detailed knowledge of the principles of supply chain management techniques and best practices.
  • An understanding of global supply chains and downstream global impacts.
  • In depth experience with ERP systems, specifically modules pertaining to procurement and supply chain management.
