Position Summary:
As an Associate Attorney specializing in Medical Malpractice for our client, you will work under the general supervision of the department supervisor, providing legal representation for healthcare facilities and providers across various medical specialties. This role involves a range of responsibilities, including research, analysis, litigation defense, and client representation.
Essential Functions:
- Legal Research and Analysis: Research and interpret facts and laws related to intricate problems and situations, particularly in the defense of complex medical malpractice actions. Review and analyze medical records to build a comprehensive understanding of cases.
- Litigation Defense: Develop litigation defense strategies based on thorough research and analysis. Represent clients in legal proceedings, including court appearances, administrative hearings, depositions, and meetings.
- Document Drafting: Draft correspondence in response to inquiries from clients, attorneys, judges, officials, and/or agencies. Draft and respond to written discovery, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Legal Memoranda: Research and prepare memoranda on a variety of legal issues, demonstrating a clear understanding of complex legal matters.
- Time Management: Prepare and enter daily time entries to ensure accurate tracking of billable hours.
Requirements:
- Experience: 3-5 years of litigation experience, with a preference for candidates with directly transferable skills in medical malpractice litigation. Trial experience is a plus.
- Education: Law degree from an accredited law school. Admission to the New Jersey Bar is required; additional Bar admissions are a plus.
- Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication in oral and written forms, with strong attention to detail.
- Independence and Efficiency: Ability to work independently, efficiently, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to work professionally with court officials, judges, attorneys, and the general public.
- Collaboration: Ability to collaborate extensively with other attorneys, paralegals, and office staff within established systems and processes.
- Client Development: Work to generate new clients through individual and firm-wide networking and marketing efforts. Comfortable meeting with clients and public speaking.
