Job Description

Title: Associate Architect, VoiceAI Team: Patient Experience - Engineering

Location: Canada Remote (ET/CT). Occasional domestic and/or U.S. travel for in-person events and meetings.

Why This Role Exists

At Phreesia, we’re transforming the healthcare experience through intelligent technology that helps patients connect with care more easily and helps providers operate more efficiently. As an Associate Architect on our VoiceAI team, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the technical foundation of our AI-powered products. In this role, you’ll serve as a hands-on technical leader, designing, building, scaling, and maintaining distributed software systems that power VoiceAI experiences and AI-enabled workflows. You’ll partner closely with Product Management, fellow architects, designers, and engineers to deliver innovative solutions that improve patient activation and healthcare outcomes. If you’re passionate about modern software architecture, AI technologies, and building products that make a meaningful impact, we’d love to meet you.

What You’ll Spend Your Time Doing

Design and build scalable software.

Design, implement, and maintain distributed software systems with a focus on AI-enabled product capabilities, Voice AI agents, and LLM-powered workflows.

  • Drive technical architecture. Define system architecture, business domain boundaries, scalability strategies, infrastructure requirements, monitoring, and technical documentation.
  • Partner across teams. Collaborate with Product Management, Design, architects, and engineering teams to define requirements, evaluate solutions, and deliver high-quality products.
  • Lead engineering execution. Guide sprint planning, support software deployment, contribute code, perform pull request reviews, maintain security and quality standards, and support products throughout their lifecycle.
  • Provide technical leadership. Mentor engineers, support hiring, lead Beta cycles, troubleshoot production issues, manage escalations, and help drive Agile development practices.
  • Continuously improve solutions. Evaluate frameworks, technologies, and build-versus-buy decisions while leveraging AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery.
What Makes You a Great Fit

You don’t need to check every box — but this role will feel energizing if you:

  • Have hands-on experience designing, building, or integrating AI-powered applications, including Voice AI agents and LLM-based workflows in production environments.
  • Enjoy designing and operating cloud-native applications preferably on AWS, leveraging Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD practices to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.
  • Have played a lead role in designing, evolving, and modernizing .NET applications, including API design and distributed system architecture.
  • Have experience building distributed applications using C#, .NET, Java, or other object-oriented technologies, with APIs, microservices, and asynchronous messaging architectures.
  • Bring deep expertise in software architecture, object-oriented principles, and modern design patterns, with a track record of designing scalable, resilient systems.
  • Have experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases, distributed caching technologies such as Redis, messaging frameworks like NServiceBus or RabbitMQ, and modern front-end technologies such as Angular or React.
  • Are a strong technical leader who communicates effectively, collaborates across cross-functional teams, mentors engineers, and is product-minded, pragmatic, and comfortable thriving in a fast-paced, Agile environment.
  • Bring experience with healthcare technology, including EMR or practice management integrations, or generative AI technologies for screen analysis (preferred).
We Do Have A Few Requirements To Check
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 10+ years of experience building distributed applications in an object-oriented language such as C# or Java.
  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience designing, building, or integrating Voice AI agents and LLM-powered workflows in production environments.
