Wealthsimple is Canada’s leading financial innovator. The AML team detects and responds to money-laundering and terrorist-financing risks at Wealthsimple, using data-driven insights to strengthen the program and protect clients.

As a data expert on the AML team, you will build detection models, analyze large datasets, refine risk scores, and develop dashboards for leadership. You will collaborate with product, technology, and compliance to drive meaningful business impact.

Qualifications

• Strong data skills with AML or fraud risk background.
• Experience using SQL for quantitative analysis and turning results into actionable proposals.
• Experience with AI tools and validating outputs.

Responsibilities

The Anti-Money Laundering (AML) team detects and responds to money-laundering and terrorist-financing risks at Wealthsimple. Alongside compliance and operational experts, you will help to improve & strengthen Wealthsimple’s AML program, helping to stop financial crime.

A typical week in this role would have you solving data problems in a fast-paced environment that prioritizes shipping and iterating on new features for our clients. We are looking for an experienced data expert to deliver data-backed decisions about how to adjust our AML detection strategy.

The AML team is at the forefront of every new feature launch, and you will get the opportunity to collaborate with product, technology, and compliance while seeing your work create significant impacts on the business. You believe that a strong foundation in compliance is key to innovation in financial services, and are excited about working with cross-functional teams in the service of better products and protection for clients.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Create & improve detection models to identify unusual transaction patterns and suspicious activities while minimizing false positives.

We're looking for someone who:

• Has strong data skills with applied experience in a risk function like AML or fraud

• Experience using SQL to conduct quantitative analysis and synthesizing results into actionable proposals

• Experience using AI tools to work faster, and the judgment to know how to validate their output

• Can develop and communicate stories to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Is able to internalize and weigh information to come to balanced decisions

• Is intellectually curious and passionate about their work

• Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working in AML or a compliance function

  • Experience working with data visualization softwares such as Preset / Superset, Tableau, Looker, PowerBI, etc

  • Experience working with databases like Snowflake, Redshift, MySQL
