Job summary

Spirit of Math in Toronto is seeking a Level 3 Assistant Teacher to support classroom instruction and independently teach as needed, with FTM 2 certification.

You will assist the Primary Teacher, lead activities, and provide targeted help to students, while maintaining classroom flow and supporting assessments. Internal training ensures readiness for independent teaching as required.

Qualifications

• Must have a Bachelor's Degree and be hired as an employee.
• Successful completion of background screening (vulnerability check).
• Professional communication and classroom conduct required.

Responsibilities

• Support lesson delivery alongside the Primary Teacher.
• Lead pre-assigned classroom activities such as groupwork, drills, or core topics.
• Provide targeted support to new and struggling students.
• Assist with homework sessions when assigned.
• Maintain classroom flow while the Primary Teacher attends to individual needs or parents.
• Support assessment and new students and work with them independently as required.
• Independently teach or substitute teach in the absence of the primary teacher (paid at the Substitute Teacher rate).
• Arrive 15 minutes before class starts.
• Assist with classroom setup and standards upkeep.
• Support transitions, engagement, and student behavior expectations.
• Assist with attendance tracking and follow-up as directed.
• Assist with marking and preparation as assigned.
• Provide observational feedback on student progress to the Primary Teacher.
• Assist with updating Brightspace records as required.

The Level 3 Assistant Teacher is an adult instructional support role that supports classroom instruction more actively than an Assistant Teacher and is qualified to independently teach (as a substitute teacher if the need arises) as they are certified through FTM 2.

ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS

• Must be 18+, with a Bachelor's Degree, and hired as an employee.
• Successful completion of mandatory background screening (vulnerability check)
• Completion and passing of FTM 1. (Internal training)
• Completion and passing of FTM 2. (Internal training)
• Ability to commit to regular weekly shifts
• Professional communication and classroom conduct required

Core Responsibilities
