Job duties:

  • Assist the Shop Manager with:
    • Overseeing daily operations by prioritizing and managing workflow to meet daily objectives.
    • Hiring and training employees.
    • Managing employees and assigning duties.
  • Lead by example to motivate and support the team, offering coaching and educational guidance to enhance individual skills of employees and foster teamwork.
  • Address customer concerns with strong communication and problem-solving abilities, ensuring high customer satisfaction and resolving issues effectively.
  • Work closely with the Shop Manager to monitor cost control efforts, support budgeting, and help track daily objectives to ensure financial targets are achieved.
  • Ensure that the shop and customer areas remain clean, organized, and safe, upholding safety standards and maintaining an inviting environment.
  • Will also be required, at times, to do mechanical work, as authorized and directed by the Shop Manager, including:
    • Completing vehicle maintenance and repair work.
    • Performing vehicle fluid changes, including oil, transmission, power steering, brake, clutch, and differential fluids.
    • Diagnosing vehicle malfunction or driveability issues and carrying out authorized repairs and replacements.
    • Completing repairs and/or replacements on vehicle brake, engine, suspension and steering, drive train, exhaust, cooling and climate control, and electrical and electronic control systems.
    • Performing vehicle tire repairs, replacements, and wheel alignments.
    • Test driving vehicles in order to diagnose and confirm causes of vehicle malfunctions and to verify the success of repairs and/or replacements.

Terms of employment: Permanent and full-time.

Wage: $40.87 per hour.

Skills requirements:

Required education:

  • Completion of Secondary School (High School) is required.
  • Completion of an automotive service technician apprenticeship program involving training courses at an accredited Automotive Training Institute is preferred.
  • Red Seal Automotive Service Technician Certification is preferred.

Required work experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years in the Automotive Repair Industry with demonstrated growth in skills, including vehicle maintenance, fluid changes, drivability diagnostics, and safety inspections/repairs.
  • Preferred: 6,000 hours of practical training required for Red Seal certification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of vehicle mechanical and electronic systems, components, and operations.
  • Ability to diagnose drivability issues and malfunctions using a systematic approach.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools (scanners, testers, hoists, etc.) and software (Mitchell on Demand, Identifix).
  • Skilled in interpreting vehicle electrical diagrams for troubleshooting.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to use both power and hand tools effectively.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving repair techniques.
  • Ability to drive both automatic and manual vehicles safely.
  • Creative problem-solving skills while adhering to OEM specifications.
