Job description

The Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for one (1) full-time tenure stream position in the area of Applied Mathematics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Mathematics or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching.The University of Toronto is an international leader in Mathematics research and education, and we seek exceptional candidates who would complement and broaden our existing departmental strengths.

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research which can be demonstrated by a record of impactful contributions, publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting the highest international standards, presentations at significant conferences, the submitted research statement, awards and accolades, and exceptionally strong endorsements by referees of top international stature.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, and student mentorship.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct an innovative, competitive, independent, and externally funded research program.

In addition, the successful candidate will be assigned a teaching and service load.

HIRING SALARY

The expected salary range is $140,000 to $190,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.

  • a research statement outlining current and future research interests;
  • a teaching dossier, including
    • a teaching statement,
    • sample course materials, and
    • teaching evaluations or evidence of superior performance in other teaching-related activities as listed above); and
  • the AMS Standard Cover Sheet; and
  • at least four letters of reference (on letterhead, dated, and signed) uploaded to MathJobs directly by the writers, including at least one primarily addressing the candidate’s teaching.
