An assistant produce manager ensures produce is fresh, displays are appealing, and all department standards for quality, safety, and sanitation are met. They assist the produce manager with daily operations such as managing inventory, ordering as well as receiving and putting out fresh product. Key duties also include training and coaching staff, providing customer service, and supervising the department when the manager is absent.

Core responsibilities
  • Inventory and ordering: Assist with ordering, receiving, and stocking products, and create production sheets based on sales.
  • Quality control: Ensure all produce meets company quality standards and is displayed to maximize appeal and freshness.
  • Staff supervision and training: Train and coach department staff on procedures and tasks, and supervise them in the absence of the produce manager.
  • Customer service: Provide excellent customer service, answer questions, and resolve complaints to ensure a positive shopping experience.
  • Department maintenance: Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment, and create attractive product displays.
  • Administrative tasks: Perform administrative duties as required, which may include scheduling or assisting with inventory counts.
