Your Role

We're looking for Assistant Preconstruction Managers to join our Construction Solutions team. In this role you will dig deep into design and constructability options to help optimize your client's projects. You will bring your hands‑on experience in design, cost estimating and construction to the owner’s side of the table to provide real‑time, continuous feedback throughout the planning, design, and construction phases to minimize risks and maximize value.

Responsibilities
  • Provide preconstruction leadership to deliver value‑based design and constructability options for projects across Canada.
  • Engage in design meetings with owners, architects and engineers during the design stage to provide real‑time recommendations to optimize cost, schedule, quality and constructability.
  • Review and comment on drawings (2D and 3D) and specifications prepared by design consultants and provide recommendations for constructability, value engineering and sequencing options.
  • Prepare and lead the development of Construction Management Plans (CMP) to support permitting applications taking into consideration construction logistics, site conditions and utilities, traffic impacts, health & safety, and impacts on adjacent property.
  • Lead design‑assist teams of trade contractors and consultants to investigate major building renovations and equipment upgrades to establish the most efficient and least disruptive sequence of works within occupied facilities.
  • Provide construction management support to owners and developers to augment their in‑house construction teams, bringing expertise in trade package development, trade procurement, construction‑management platform (i.e. Procore) implementation, and procedures development.
  • Assist industrial clients with equipment integration into base buildings that were not originally designed for this purpose, including assembling a team of designers, code consultants, and trade contractors to conduct feasibility studies, preliminary design, and cost estimating.
  • Conduct regular site visits at preconstruction and construction phases of the project to conduct site assessments and prepare documentation as may be required.
  • Actively participate in business development and proposals for new and existing clients to help grow the business and expand our professional service offering.
  • Maintain internal financial control of projects managed to ensure all activities and deliverables are managed within budget.
  • Prepare project plans and schedules and maintain compliance with internal Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure deliverables are developed to a consistently high standard.
  • Assist with training and mentoring of staff and provide leadership across all assigned projects.
  • Utilize tools such as RSMeans Online, Procore, cmBuilder, SketchUp, HoloBuilder, Drones, BuildingConnected, Autodesk Construction Cloud and others to prepare deliverables for Construction Solutions.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field, combined with experience in the construction industry.
  • 2‑5 years of progressive experience in design, cost estimating, and/or construction as an Assistant Preconstruction Manager.
  • Professional Engineering qualifications preferred.
  • PMP qualifications preferred, or willingness to obtain within one year.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with building codes, health & safety regulations, and regulatory permit requirements for the construction industry.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret drawings and design details.
  • In‑depth knowledge of trades relevant to commercial, industrial and civil construction.
  • Knowledge of government regulations regarding the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, Outlook; and Google communication tools like Gmail and Google Docs.
  • Knowledge of project management tools such as Microsoft Project/Gantt chart planning tools.
What You Can Expect
  • An opportunity to truly impact our communities.
  • A flexible work environment.
  • A comprehensive onboarding experience.
  • Significant professional development, training, and a mentorship program.
  • A paid volunteer day.
  • An environment where people feel welcome, heard and included, regardless of their differences.
  • And much more!
