Job description
Assistant or Associate Professor in Interior Design

Assistant or Associate Professor in Interior Design

The Faculty of Environmental Design of the Université de Montréal is looking for a professor to join its interior design program, at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The Faculty comprises some 20 research units and 23 educational programs, all dedicated to the study of human‑environment interactions and the design of built and natural spaces.

As the only university programs in interior design in Quebec, our undergraduate and graduate degrees focus on the relationship between people and their environments and the contribution of the discipline to contemporary social issues.

The successful candidate will consolidate our faculty team’s expertise in the study and design of rich, stimulating environments that take into account the diversity of human experiences. They will participate in the growth of a research culture linked to Quebec design practice by supporting the development of the School’s and Faculty’s graduate programs. The professor will be expected to:

Responsibilities
  • Teach studios, lectures, and seminars in our interior design bachelor and postgraduate diploma programs, as well as in our interdisciplinary master’s and doctoral programs;
  • Develop an independent, innovative, and high‑quality research program;
  • Participate in the operational development of the School and Faculty;
  • Contribute to university life and administration, and promote the discipline of interior design to other faculties;
  • Contribute to increasing the visibility of university research in design through peer‑reviewed publications, local and international communications, or recognized creations;
  • Engage actively with professional circles.
Qualifications
  • PhD in interior design or a related discipline (architecture, environmental design, or other built environment disciplines), with a specialization relevant to the advancement of the discipline, such as socio‑ecological transition, integration of digital technologies, heritage intervention, construction innovations, or integration of First Nations knowledge;
  • Excellent research and publication record;
  • Professional experience in interior design projects;
  • University‑level teaching experience;
  • Potential to develop internal, national, and international collaborations;
  • Adequate proficiency of the French language or commitment to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program.
