Your Opportunity:
The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The UAH and Stollery Children’s Emergency Department is a busy tertiary care level I emergency department and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This large tertiary Trauma Centre provides opportunities in a broad base of emergency nursing from Pediatrics to Trauma Care. Registered Nurses within the Emergency department work in a state-of-the-art facility utilizing an electronic tracking system, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for emergency patients. Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary health care team environment. In this role, you may be required to work in all areas of Emergency at the discretion of the Unit Manager/Charge Nurse. Working with us is about making a difference. Description

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications

Senior level Emergency nurse. Charge Trained. Recent involvement with process improvement/quality initiatives and/or working groups. Application package provides examples of excellent communication skills. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Recent nursing experience in a tertiary/urban center. Recent critical care experience in the last 2 years. ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS, EPICC, NRP – Preference will be given to applicants with 3 of 6 (Must provide certificate prior to interview). Certified Emergency Nurse (CAN or CNE) an asset. Preference to those who can demonstrate excellent assessment skills, organizational skills, patient care skills, and leadership skills. Current UAH/Stollery Emergency preferred.
