Job summary

Talize in Oshawa is seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to lead store operations, coach a diverse team, and deliver exceptional customer service. You’ll partner with the General Manager to optimize merchandise processing, floor execution, and safety compliance in a fast-paced thrift environment.

The role requires strong leadership, hands-on coaching, and the ability to drive results while maintaining Talize’s values of sustainability and affordability.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of retail management experience.
  • Strong leadership and people development skills.
  • Ability to drive results and day-to-day operations.
  • Experience in thrift/high-volume retail environments is a plus.
  • Good attention to detail and customer interaction skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily store operations including merchandise processing, customer service, and donation intake.
  • Ensure accurate pricing, smooth register operations, and strong merchandise flow.
  • Supervise and coach Retail Floor Supervisors, Processing Supervisors, and OSD Ambassador.
  • Train team members on POS, customer service, merchandising standards, and procedures.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management with the General Manager.
  • Drive engagement, recognition, and a positive team culture.
  • Lead daily floor walks and floor replenishment; track productivity metrics.
  • Handle refunds, voids, exchanges, tax exemptions, and register balancing.
  • Complete schedules, reports, inventory logs, and other admin tasks.

We are seeking a driven and hands‑on Assistant General Manager who will support overall store performance by strengthening operations, developing talent, and delivering excellent customer service. This role plays a key part in merchandise processing, retail floor execution, team leadership, and health and safety, ensuring the store runs efficiently and meets company standards. Working closely with the General Manager, the AGM helps lead the team, maintain store readiness, and uphold Talize’s mission of sustainable and affordable fashion.

This role requires open availability, including weekends, holidays, and closing shifts, with consistent reliability to support smooth operations.

What You’ll Be Doing - Every Day is Game Day
Departmental Duties
  • Store Operations:
    • Oversee daily execution across the retail floor, merchandise processing, customer service, and donation intake.
    • Ensure strong merchandise flow, store readiness, accurate pricing, and smooth register operations.
    • Address customer concerns, monitor sales floor activity, and support loss prevention and visual standards.
  • Supervise and coach Retail Floor Supervisors, Processing Supervisors, and the OSD Ambassador.
  • Train team members on POS, customer service, merchandising standards, and operational procedures.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management in partnership with the General Manager.
  • Drive engagement, recognition, and a positive team culture.
  • Operational Execution:
    • Lead daily floor walks and team huddles to set priorities and align the team.
    • Coordinate merchandise sorting, processing, and timely floor replenishment.
    • Track productivity metrics (e.g., pounds processed) to guide decision‑making.
    • Handle refunds, voids, exchanges, tax exemptions, and register balancing.
    • Complete schedules, reports, inventory logs, and other administrative tasks.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance:
    • Maintain store‑wide cleanliness, safety standards, and procedural compliance.
    • Serve as Co‑Chair of the Joint Health & Safety Committee—document incidents, identify hazards, and support corrective actions.
    • Ensure consistent adherence to company policies across all departments.
What You Bring - Skills That Turn Heads
  • 3+ years of retail management experience with proven leadership and people development skills.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to drive results, solve problems, and support day‑to‑day operations.
  • Experience in thrift, warehouse, or high‑volume retail environments (an asset).
  • High attention to detail and strong emotional intelligence to support teams and customer interactions.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean abstract preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Comfortable in a physically active role involving constant movement, lifting up to 50 lbs, and safely moving rolling merchandise containers.
  • Able to work in a dynamic retail environment that may involve exposure to dust, dirt, and occasional pests while maintaining safety and professionalism.
  • Open to a flexible schedule—days, evenings, weekends, and holidays—and confident in engaging with customers and the community.
