Job summary

Robinhood, a fintech leader, seeks an experienced attorney to join its regulatory and product counsel team as Assistant General Counsel, Crypto in Toronto. You will partner with product and compliance teams on launches, provide ongoing legal counsel, and help navigate Canadian crypto regulations.

The role requires a J.D., Canadian bar admission, and 7+ years in law firms, government, or fintech. In-person work at the Toronto office is expected at least 3 days per week.

Qualifications

  • J.D. degree from a law school accredited by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada.
  • Bar admission in at least 1 Canadian province or territory, with good standing.
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience at law firm, government agency and/or technology, financial services, brokerage or fintech company.
  • Experience with legal and regulatory requirements applicable to crypto, securities, derivatives, money transmission, and/or sanctions.
  • Extraordinary interpersonal and communication skills and ability to communicate internally and externally, including to non-legal audiences, and drive cross-functional alignment.
  • Motivated, with modesty, determination, and innovation to accomplish tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide end-to-end counseling on regulatory and product matters for crypto products and services.
  • Respond promptly to legal requests and coordinate with stakeholders and outside counsel.
  • Identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks while supporting product goals.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Advise on crypto regulatory developments in Canada.
  • Engage with Canadian securities regulators and self-regulatory organizations.
  • Develop trusted relationships to enable coordinated product launches.
  • Be a proactive business partner and product owner, not just a legal advisor.
  • Pitch in on any legal work as needed.

We are looking for an experienced and innovative attorney to join our regulatory and product counsel team as Assistant General Counsel, reporting to the Senior Director and Deputy General Counsel, Crypto at Robinhood. In this role, you'll partner directly with our product and compliance teams on product launches and provide legal counsel to them on an ongoing basis. The successful candidate will be an engaged and resourceful self-starter, comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and excellent at building strong relationships. This role is based in our Toronto office with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

What you'll do
  • Provide end-to-end counseling on a range of retail cryptocurrency products and services, collaborating with colleagues and cross-functional stakeholders across the company
  • Respond promptly to a wide range of sophisticated legal requests and coordinate closely with internal stakeholders and outside counsel to deliver practical, timely and high-quality advice
  • Identify and assess legal and regulatory risks, and find creative ways to mitigate them while achieving product goals
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Advise on legal and regulatory developments related to cryptocurrency in Canada
  • Engage directly with Canadian securities regulators and self-regulatory organizations on matters of compliance and innovation
  • Develop trusted relationships to facilitate a coordinated team approach to launching new products and features
  • Be a business partner and think like a proactive product owner, not just a legal advisor
  • Pitch in on whatever legal work needs doing, whenever it needs to be done
What you bring

Base Pay Range

Toronto, ON

$144,500-$170,000 CAD
