Role The Assistant Financial Controller in Ultra are responsible for ensuring that all transactions are recorded, summarized and presented in financial reports or financial statements to meet regulatory requirements and for producing information to inform and enable decision making, planning and performance evaluation.

Nationality Requirements

Candidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers.

Job Description

  • Responsible for all fixed asset accounting including forecasting, budgeting, and maintaining fixed asset subledger.
  • Facilitate and provide input into the company overhead cost control via monthly reviews with cost centre managers and the quarterly overhead reviews.
  • Work with the Financial Controller in implementation and management of internal controls with respect to financial policies, processes and procedures, including those required by Head Office.
  • Provide weekly and monthly cash flow forecast reports
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, reports, schedules, and variance analysis
  • Prepare timely and accurate journal entries as required in completing the day-to-day accounting and financial month-end close process.
  • Provides advice and guidance on accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting.
  • Works with accounts payable in payment processing and will maintain and reconcile all payment ledgers and bank statements.
  • Will work with the payroll administrator and will provide support in the function.
  • Oversee the preparation of all balance sheet reconciliations and intercompany verification.
  • Will assist in the year-end audits and preparation of company audit files and financial reports. Responding to and coordinating all audit demands and questions from audit staff.
  • Work with external accountants in the preparation of working papers for annual tax filing and provisions.
  • Assist with government audits, including but not limited to; GST, Payroll, Revenue Canada R&D audits and responses to queries outside of audits.
  • Responsible for financial reporting to various companies and agencies (Statistics Canada, etc.)
  • Responsible for reconciling and preparing monthly GST/HST filing.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Role Requirements

  • Ability to work on Canadian Controlled Goods and US ITAR controlled articles
  • Excellent level of computer literacy (Word, Excel, MS Project).
  • Able to work out of normal business hours and time zone
  • Must be able to achieve the level of security clearance as required by the business

Qualifications (Degree/PhD, specialist qualification, etc.)

  • Degree qualified – Business or Accounting with a professional accounting designation preferred.

Experience (of Industry, type of role, type of challenges)

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a senior accounting role, ideally within a high-tech company.
  • Experience applying earned value accounting principles within a large project industry such as engineering or construction would be considered an asset
  • Experience in dealing with multiple currencies and inter-company transactions would be considered an asset
  • Experience making improvements to an ERP system a distinct advantage.
  • Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms.
  • Experience with financial analysis.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast paced international environment.
