We are currently recruiting an Assistant Educator to join our team in Innisfil at the following location(s): Lake Simcoe PS, Innisfil and Sunnybrae PS.

This position is to fill a new vacancy.

Pay Range:

Assistant Educator $20.20 - $23.08/hour (includes General Operating Grant) plus Wage Enhancement Grant (up to $2.00/hr) and Split Shift Premium ($2.00/hr).

*Candidates must be available to work a split shift in a before and after school program.

Position Type & Required Availability:

  • Full-time Supply Position (30 hours/week): Candidates must be available to work a split-shift (morning and afternoon) in our Before & After School programs or a full day (8-hour shift) Monday-Friday to be considered.

Position Summary

To ensure operational and curriculum requirements are met in compliance with all Ministry and organizational guidelines. To ensure the delivery of a developmentally appropriate, play based program by applying specialized skills and knowledge related to early childhood education. Supports the organization’s vision, mission, and guiding values. This is a fully in-centre position.

Job Responsibilities
  • Applies current legislative expectations to support a program that is consistent with Ministry of Education requirements and in accordance with Upper Canada Child Care’s program statement.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities, staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Engages with the children and provides a positive learning experience. Provides a range of care including assisting with meals/snacks, toileting, diapering, dressing, etc.
  • Fosters the engagement of and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children.
  • Completes program charts, daily logs, reports, and other administration tasks as required.
  • Uses Storypark for pedagogical documentation as a guide for program development.
  • Effectively collaborates and communicates with other team members, school personnel, and outside agencies to help support the needs of all children.
  • Provides guidance to students and volunteers as needed.
  • Identifies children in need of additional support. Guides parents through the process of accessing resources. Helps design and implement individual support plans as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Health assessment and record of immunization, as outlined by legislation.
  • Up-to-date certification in CPR-C and Standard First Aid (training provided upon selection if required).
  • Basic knowledge of the developmental needs of children and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge.
  • Experience with inquiry/play based program design and implementation, and with the use of pedagogical documentation an asset.
  • Uses initiative; applies sound reason in solving problems and resolves conflict in a calm, professional manner.
  • Proven ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively and establish appropriate relationships with families, coworkers and other professionals.
  • Have the physical and emotional stamina to effectively supervise children in a variety of settings including outdoor public spaces.
  • Ability to use computer systems and programs; including Dayforce, and Storypark.
  • Moderate level of physical effort is regularly required; including but not limited to kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, and carrying.
