We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Senior Finance Manager/Assistant Controller to join our Finance team in Stouffville, ON. In this role, you will support the accuracy, integrity, and financial performance of the organization across multiple entities. You will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting, month-end and year-end close activities, account reconciliations, budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis, internal controls, and the preparation and review of financial information.

Working closely with Finance and internal stakeholders, you will provide financial insight and support to business leaders, ensure compliance with accounting standards and established financial controls, and contribute to the continuous improvement and standardization of financial processes across the organization.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Finance Manager/Assistant Controller is responsible for overseeing the month-end close process, financial reporting, and day-to-day accounting activities across assigned entities. This hands-on role plays an important part in maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information while supporting internal controls, reporting requirements, and financial processes in a multi-entity environment.

This role will also support operational performance, finance process standardization, and organizational transformation initiatives, including the implementation of a new ERP system planned for Q1 2027.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with Operations and Finance stakeholders, drive process improvements, and contribute to the continued growth and development of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Manage monthly and year-end close processes across assigned entities, ensuring adherence to reporting deadlines and established close calendars.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements, reporting packages, management reports, and supporting financial analysis.
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and other period-end adjustments.
• Perform intercompany reconciliations and support consolidation processes across entities.
• Ensure timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve reconciling items.
• Perform month-over-month, budget-to-actual, and year-over-year variance analysis of balance sheet and P&L accounts.
• Prepare KPI schedules, operational variance analysis, reporting packages, and corporate reporting schedules.
• Lead fixed asset, prepaid expense, and general ledger processes and ensure appropriate accounting treatment and supporting documentation.
• Prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts, working capital analysis, and cash movement summaries to support financial planning and decision-making.
• Monitor intercompany transactions and ensure accurate and timely reporting.
• Ensure accruals are accurately reported and appropriately supported.
• Provide mentorship, review, and oversight to accounting team members.
• Review non-PO invoices to ensure appropriate coding, approvals, and compliance with established procedures.
• Review and approve monthly bank reconciliations and cash clearing accounts.
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies in collaboration with AP, AR, Operations, and other internal stakeholders.
• Support accurate inventory valuation and cost accounting processes.
• Maintain data integrity across accounting systems and financial reporting processes.
• Maintain and enhance documented accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Support external audits by coordinating requests for supporting documentation, tracking audit queries, and working with the Controller to resolve outstanding items.
• Prepare statutory filings and remittances and support compliance with applicable accounting standards, federal and provincial regulatory requirements, and corporate policies.
• Support the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes by preparing historical analysis, supporting schedules, and financial models.
• Assist with consolidating budget and forecast inputs across assigned entities and provide variance analysis and data validation.
• Identify opportunities to improve close timelines, reporting accuracy, financial processes, and overall efficiency.
• Support the implementation of a new ERP system and future system integrations, including process documentation and change management initiatives.
• Contribute to the standardization of finance processes across business units and support broader organizational transformation initiatives.
• Partner with Operations and Finance stakeholders to translate financial information into clear and actionable business insights.
• Assist with ad hoc analysis, reporting, projects, and other Finance-related duties as required.

Qualifications

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including strong experience with month-end close and financial reporting.
• Strong experience working with multiple legal entities or business units.
• Experience mentoring or providing oversight to accounting team members.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, reconciliations, accruals, variance analysis, and internal controls.
• Experience with ERP systems is required; experience with financial consolidation is considered an asset.
• Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial analysis activities.
• Experience in construction, infrastructure, transportation, or a related industry is considered an asset.
• CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA completion is preferred.
• Experience supporting ERP implementations, system integrations, or finance transformation initiatives is considered an asset.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, PivotTables, and the ability to work with and consolidate information across multiple spreadsheets and data sources.
