Farm Boy in Hamilton is seeking a hands-on Department Manager to lead a high‑performing team and deliver exceptional service. You will coach staff, support training, and help execute departmental strategies to meet performance goals. You’ll also manage inventory, scheduling, and payroll while maintaining rigorous health and safety standards.

The role emphasizes a fast-paced environment with opportunities for internal promotion and a focus on a best-in-class fresh shopping experience.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary program in Culinary Management with supervisory experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience in a similar role or equivalent education/experience.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure with strong prioritization and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver warm, confident customer service reflecting Farm Boy’s premium fresh experience.
  • Collaborate with the Department Manager to execute departmental strategies and goals.
  • Coach and motivate the team; recognize performance and maintain professionalism.
  • Lead regular huddles to share goals, celebrate successes, and strengthen product knowledge.
  • Prepare and present fresh offerings for hot/cold bar and grill stations.
  • Support daily operations: merchandising, staffing coverage, and cleanliness.
  • Provide office tasks including inventory, ordering, invoicing, scheduling, and payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and health/safety regulations; HACCP awareness.
  • Cover additional duties as needed to support store operations.

Through hands‑on leadership, coaching, and operational support, you’ll help drive daily excellence while building an engaged, trusting, and high‑performing team.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver warm, confident, and engaging customer service that reflects Farm Boy’s commitment to the best fresh shopping experience.
  • Work closely with the Department Manager to execute departmental strategies and achieve stated goals and performance objectives.
  • Support team development through training, coaching, motivation, and recognition while maintaining a high level of trust, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Build a positive, collaborative team culture by leading regular huddles to share goals, celebrate successes, strengthen product knowledge, and encourage two‑way feedback.
  • Bring our food experience to life by preparing and cooking fresh offerings for our hot and cold bar and grill stations.
  • Support daily department operations to ensure excellent customer service, effective merchandising and rotation, adequate staffing coverage, and consistently high cleanliness standards.
  • Provide office and administrative support including inventory management, ordering, invoicing, scheduling, and payroll functions.
  • Promote clear communication and adherence to company policies and government regulations to support compliance across the team.
  • Follow all corporate policies and procedures with a strong focus on Health & Safety, Food Safety, HACCP compliance, and proper equipment use.
  • Support store operations by assuming other related duties on a periodic basis.
What you bring to the table.
  • A genuine passion for delivering engaging and exceptional customer service.
  • Completion of a post‑secondary program with an emphasis in Culinary Management, plus a minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience in a similar role (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • The ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment by effectively managing priorities while maintaining a high level of performance.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, supported by strong mathematical aptitude.
  • Comfort learning and using manual and automated systems, with prior experience working with a variety of computer software programs.
  • Thriving in a hands‑on setting that involves extended periods of standing, heavy lifting, and work that may be performed in cooler, freezer, and outdoor conditions.
  • Flexibility to work a dynamic schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Fluency in English; French language skills considered an asset.
