Job summary

Farm Boy is seeking a hands-on Department Manager in Barrie, Ontario to help lead the delivery of exceptional food and service experiences. You will partner with the Department Manager to drive daily excellence, coach the team, and support operations across the department.

You bring a Culinary Management post-secondary program and at least 1 year of supervisory or management experience. Fluency in English is required; French is an asset. Accommodations available.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary program with emphasis in Culinary Management, plus 1 year of supervisory or management experience.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing priorities.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills with good math aptitude.
  • Experience with computer software programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of exceptional food and service experiences reflecting Farm Boy’s commitment to the best fresh shopping experience.
  • Partner with the Department Manager to execute departmental strategies and achieve goals.
  • Coach and develop the team, maintaining trust and professionalism.
  • Lead regular huddles to share goals, celebrate successes, and encourage feedback.
  • Prepare and cook fresh offerings for hot and cold bars and grill stations.
  • Support store operations including merchandising, staffing, cleanliness.
  • Provide office and administrative support such as inventory, ordering, scheduling, payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and government regulations, health & safety, HACCP.
  • Attend to additional duties as needed.

  • Work closely with the Department Manager to execute departmental strategies and achieve stated goals and performance objectives.
  • Support team development through training, coaching, motivation, and recognition while maintaining a high level of trust, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Build a positive, collaborative team culture by leading regular huddles to share goals, celebrate successes, strengthen product knowledge, and encourage two-way feedback.
  • Bring our food experience to life by preparing and cooking fresh offerings for our hot and cold bar and grill stations.
  • Support daily department operations to ensure excellent customer service, effective merchandising and rotation, adequate staffing coverage, and consistently high cleanliness standards.
  • Provide office and administrative support including inventory management, ordering, invoicing, scheduling, and payroll functions.
  • Promote clear communication and adherence to company policies and government regulations to support compliance across the team.
  • Follow all corporate policies and procedures with a strong focus on Health & Safety, Food Safety, HACCP compliance, and proper equipment use.
  • Support store operations by assuming other related duties on a periodic basis.

  • Completion of a post-secondary program with an emphasis in Culinary Management, plus a minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience in a similar role (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment by effectively managing priorities while maintaining a high level of performance.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, supported by strong mathematical aptitude.
  • Comfort learning and using manual and automated systems, with prior experience working with a variety of computer software programs.
  • Thrive in a hands-on setting that involves extended periods of standing, heavy lifting, and work that may be performed in cooler, freezer, and outdoor conditions.
  • Flexibility to work a dynamic schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Fluency in English; French language skills considered an asset.
