Description

The Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, and the Division of Rheumatology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre invite applications for an Academic Rheumatologist. This full‑time position will be funded through an academic appointment as either a Clinician Teacher or Clinician in Quality & Innovation at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. The role is expected to be 60‑70% clinical and 30‑40% academic, with an anticipated start of July 1 2026 or a mutually agreeable date thereafter.

Qualifications & Experience

Clinical expertise in complex rheumatic conditions, particularly systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases in the context of renal/neurologic/oncologic comorbidities and especially during pregnancy, is required. Experience with point‑of‑care ultrasound and models of care in rheumatology is an asset.

For the Clinician Teacher track, advanced training and/or a robust record of teaching achievement is essential. Teaching excellence is evaluated by demonstrated interest in education, strong performance in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, formal training in teaching methodology, teaching awards, leadership as a clinical educator, and related experience.

For the Clinician in Quality & Innovation (CQI) track, advanced training in quality or innovation with evidence of scholarly activity (peer‑reviewed publications, presentations, awards) and a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, knowledge translation or other healthcare innovation is required.

Responsibilities

Provide exemplary clinical care for in‑patients and out‑patients, coordinate with primary care, supervise trainees in the clinical setting, deliver formal teaching, and engage in scholarly activities. The successful candidate will also support the Division’s inpatient consultation service and ambulatory rheumatology clinic.

Eligibility & Certification

The applicant must hold an MD degree, be or be eligible for Royal College certification in Rheumatology/Internal Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and possess or be eligible for licensure from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Remuneration & Benefits

Estimated remuneration is $150,000‑$300,000 (fee‑for‑service estimate), commensurate with academic rank, qualifications, and experience. Eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association, the candidate will have access to the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance plans.
