Who we're looking for:

OMNI Television, Canada’s only multilingual and multicultural television station is seeking a passionate, team-oriented and innovative Part‑time Temporary Assignment Editor with a can‑do attitude to support newsgathering for special projects and weekends in our Vancouver, BC location. This is a part‑time posting that will help support efforts in allocating resources and editorial focus on special projects and daily newsgathering.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong knowledge of daily national news and broader subjects that impact the communities we serve. You will be able to work as a team, mindful of the interests serving OMNI’s diverse communities. You will demonstrate sound editorial judgment and exceptional communication skills that will help produce lead‑worthy content.

What you will do:

  • Work with producers/bureau managers to assign resources Chase interviewees and provide guidance to ENG operators on editorial focus of assignments
  • Organize and book feeds
  • Support producers in allocation of resources for special series or presentations
  • Provide editorial insights to special series or presentations
  • Respond to breaking news quickly and accurately
  • Coordinate coverage or technical arrangements with other Rogers departments or broadcast partners on news stories, series, or specials
  • Liaise with reporters, editors, cameras, producers, on story updates and content gathered
  • Liaise with partners across Rogers Sports and Media
  • Grow and develop extensive network of contacts to support with newsgathering
  • Be plugged into social media trends and possess knowledge to use it when chasing potential stories
  • Respond to and chase news tips
  • Other duties as required

What you’ll bring:

  • 3 years experience working in an editorial capacity in a newsroom
  • Field experience as a writer, reporter or producer not required but an asset
  • Superior communication, writing, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of newsroom computer software
  • Knowledge of Inception NRCS an asset but not requirement
  • Degree or diploma in journalism or broadcasting (or equivalent experience)
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and deliver under tight deadlines A team‑focused attitude
