Job summary

JFE Shoji Power Canada is seeking an Assembly Operator for our Burlington, Ontario facility. The role focuses on precise assembly of transformer core components using laminations, with emphasis on quality, safety, and meeting customer specifications.

This contract position supports day and afternoon shifts. Candidates should have a high school diploma, 5–7 years in manufacturing, and experience operating machinery; forklift and overhead crane certification are preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assemble transformer cores using laminations according to work instructions, drawings, and/or blueprints.
• Stack, align, and interleave steel sheets to form the core structure.
• Use calipers, micrometers, and rulers to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Install core supports, clamps, and insulation materials as required.
• Ensure correct orientation and stacking sequence of laminations for electrical performance.
• Operate core stacking tables, lifting devices, hoists, or cranes.
• Perform visual and dimensional inspections to maintain quality.
• Identify and report non-conformances to supervisor or quality department.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area following 5S and safety protocols.
• Complete production documentation and checklists accurately.
• Collaborate with team members and other departments as required.
• Review production schedule and ensure sufficient manpower.

How you’ll make an impact

The Assembly Operator is responsible for the precise assembly of small, medium and/or large flat-stacked transformer core assemblies using steel laminations. This role requires a strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, specification-compliant products. The operator will build, troubleshoot, and inspect transformer cores while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet production goals and maintain safety standards.

Please note this role is a contract role to start and is day and afternoon shifts.

Job Responsibilities

• Assemble small, medium and/or large flat-stacked transformer cores using steel laminations according to work instructions, drawings, and/or blueprints to ensure conformance to customer specifications
• Accurately stack, align, and interleave steel sheets to form the transformer core structure
• Use measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, rulers) to verify dimensions and tolerances
• Install core supports, clamps, and insulation materials as required
• Ensure correct orientation and stacking sequence of core laminations to meet electrical performance specifications
• Operate core stacking tables, lifting devices, hoists, or cranes to position heavy components safely
• Perform visual and dimensional inspections throughout the assembly process to maintain high quality standards
• Identify and report non-conformances or defects to the supervisor or quality department
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, following 5S and safety protocols
• Complete required production documentation and checklists accurately
• Collaborate with other team members, team leaders, shift managers, material handlers, engineering, quality control, and other departments as required
• Accountable for production start and stop times
• Review production schedule prior to beginning of each shift and ensure there is sufficient manpower to meet production requirements
• Make sure tools and materials are available and in proper condition to meet production requirements
