Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Articling Student for Ontario Geomatics to assist with surveying activities under an Ontario Land Surveyor. You will gain field, office, and professional experience, working toward licensure while supporting the Principal in surveying tasks.

You will handle data collection, notes, maps, and reports, and collaborate with engineers and QA/QC. Strong outdoors work tolerance and commitment to safety are essential.

Qualifications

• Eligibility to enter into articles with an Ontario Land Surveyor under the AOLS Articling Student Contract (requirements include CBEPS Certificate of Completion).
• Able to execute surveys outdoors safely and accurately.
• Able to create and maintain project documentation.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid vehicle operator’s license.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Motivation to engage with the AOLS Articling Process toward licensure.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate leadership in safety and compliance with project safety systems.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Conduct outdoor surveys (legal, topographic, bathymetric, earthworks, civil construction).
• Collaborate with engineering, QA/QC, and contract personnel.
• Prepare field notes, sketches, maps and survey reports.
• Provide accurate survey data and supporting information per Data Quality Management System.
• Proficiency with survey software is an asset (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble software).
• Engage with Articling Principal to develop core competencies (project management, costing, client liaison).
• Complete Articling project reports within AOLS timeframe.
• Uphold professional standards of the AOLS.

Your Opportunity

Stantec’s has an opportunity for an Articling Student with an interest in land development, construction, and legal land matters to join our Ontario Geomatics practice. To gain comprehensive field, office, and professional experience under the supervision of an experienced Ontario Land Surveyor in the pursuit of obtaining your professional designation, you will assist the Principal with surveying activities while learning the ins and outs of legislation, legal requirements, and evidence assessment. In addition, you will perform work in the role of a Party Chief to aid in developing your proficiency in the 14 Cadastral Core Competencies.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrate a personal commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment by promoting and maintaining a culture of safety by compliance with Stantec and client safety systems, policies, procedures, environmental requirements
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions conducting comprehensive legal, topographic, bathymetric, earthworks, civil construction (roads, corridors, piping, slopes, structures) as-built surveys
• Consult, collaborate and share survey data with engineering, QA/QC and contract personnel
• Prepare and maintain excellent field notes, sketches, maps and reports of survey data to describe/certify work areas
• Providing complete and accurate survey data, notes/sketches, and supporting information in accordance with a Data Quality Management System
• Proficiency managing data with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or other survey related software is an asset
• Engage with Articling Principal to develop essential core competencies (project management/costing, liaising with clients/municipalities/third-party agents, etc.)
• Completion of the Articling project reports and examinations within the timeframe established by the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors
• Uphold the professional standards and ethical practices of the AOLS

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Ability to execute surveys in a safe, accurate, efficient, and detailed manner in an outdoor environment
• Ability to create and accurately maintain project documentation
• Proficiency with 3D Laser Scanners, GPS, drones, total stations and related equipment. Working knowledge of Trimble GPS and Trimble Total Stations is an asset
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• A valid Vehicle Operator’s License and clean driving record is required for this position
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Motivation to engage wholeheartedly with the AOLS Articling Process with the end goal of becoming an Ontario Land Surveyor.

Pay Range

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$49,300.00 - $66,600.00 Annually

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
