KGS Group is seeking a license-holding Archaeologist to support existing project work in Northern and Southern Ontario. This is a full-time position based out of our Mississauga, ON office.

The Role

KGS Group is looking for an experienced Professional or Research license-holding Archaeologist to join our growing Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment Department. The successful applicant will be an up-and-coming technical leader, or current leader in your field, with the drive to participate in a growing dynamic environmental team.

Your Key Responsibilities

• At minimum, hold and maintain a valid Applied Research license. An Ontario Professional license is preferred.
• Conduct basic archaeological fieldwork tasks (pedestrian survey, test pitting, documentation, development of mitigation measures, monitoring).
• Lead and participate in Stage 1, 2, 3, and 4 archaeological investigations working closely with the existing Technical Leads.
• The ideal candidate will act as a field director and be recognized by the Ontario Archaeology Program Unit.
• Supervise technicians and archaeologists as they carry out Stage 2, 3, and 4 archaeological tasks and ensure their quality of work meets the methods and ethics set out in the Ontario Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists (2011) as well as internal KGS Group quality requirements.
• Work with technical leads, market leads and office leaders to assist with internal and external business development opportunities in Ontario and Eastern/Central Canada.
• Develop cost estimates for various archaeological, heritage and cultural resource programs.
• Contribute to proposal and report preparation and their subsequent review to support departmental growth.
• Prepare regulatory submissions using clear and concise technical writing skills in order to meet regulatory standards and internal KGS Group quality requirements.
• Lead or support respectful collaboration with Indigenous communities, ensuring projects incorporate Indigenous knowledge and adhere to principles of reconciliation.
• Respectfully communicate and work with rights holders and partners.
• Collaborate with and support other Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment Department disciplines as needed.
• Ensure adherence to KGS Group’s health and safety policies and codes of conduct.

About You

To fill the role, we are looking for an applicant to bring forward a solid mix of qualifications and previous experience. Some highlights include:

• A four-year bachelor’s or thesis-based master’s degree in an area of anthropology or archaeology is required.
• Hold an Archaeological License in good standing as issued by the Government of Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport; (either an Applied Research License (R-License) or Professional License (P-License).
• Minimum 6 years of demonstrable experience working in Ontario as a practicing and licensed Archaeologist.
• Minimum 4 years of demonstrable experience directing others in archaeological field methods.
• Experience working with clients, regulators, rights holders and stakeholders.
• Ability to work in remote outdoor environments for extended periods of time, involving moderate to difficult hiking conditions in a variety of weather conditions.
• Hold a valid driver’s license.

The following experience is considered an asset:

• Training or experience in Indigenous engagement or community consultation.
• ATV or UTV license training.
• First Aid training.
• Previous archaeological fieldwork experience in Northern Ontario or comparable terrain and environments.
