The Community Recreation Branch is responsible for delivering high-quality, community-based recreation programs and services across Toronto. We offer various programs that promote social and physical development for all ages, with a focus on children and youth. Our goal is to ensure residents have positive recreational experiences that enhance their quality of life and promote lifelong active living.

Interested applicants must submit their Lifesaving Society ID Number (LSS ID) during the application process. The number of available positions may vary and are subject to change.

Responsibilities
  1. Ensure all required equipment is in place and operational; store equipment safely after use.
  2. Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions.
  3. Execute emergency procedures and use safety/rescue equipment as necessary.
  4. Ensure compliance with Ontario Health Regulations and all relevant policies and procedures.
  5. Perform administrative tasks to support programs.
  6. Perform maintenance and janitorial duties, including cleaning and disinfecting change rooms, testing pool chemistry, vacuuming pools, backwashing, chemical balancing, and cleaning pool fouling.
  7. Apply principles of Healthy Child Development (HIGH FIVE) in program planning and delivery.
  8. Provide instruction, evaluate skills, and ensure safety during swim lessons.
  9. Plan, conduct, and evaluate swim lessons with a focus on water safety.
  10. Promote accident prevention, public education, and positive public relations.
Qualifications
  1. Minimum age of 15 years.
  2. Current certifications: National Lifeguard – Pool, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor, and Emergency First Aid Instructor.
  3. Current Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' (SFA with CPR C) recognized by WSIB.
  4. Completion of Parks and Recreation Ontario’s Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD). This course will be provided at no cost upon signing a conditional employment offer.
